Jeepers Creepers where did you get those peepers: Jeepers Creepers where did you get those eyes; is how the old song goes (or something like it), so what a silly name for a title of a horror film?
The film opens with a pleasant enough view of a country field. Within minutes there is a car driving along the road, through this otherwise seemingly unspoiled countryside in America!
We soon find out that it is a brother and sister in the car on their way home from college/university for the summer.
Nothing interesting so far-you may think – and you’d be right! Suddenly we get a campervan on the scene, and as they begin to over take it, they slow to check out who is riding in it! Em, so when does the action start?
Not long now – honest! Actually, the film kept me intrigued from start to finish, and my eyes never strayed from the screen for one minute! However, maybe it’s a good time to say that there was only 4 people I the cinema at the time we went. Whether people had finally heard the rumours about me, or whether they had heard the rumours about the film remains to be seen! But personally I think it was because of the timing of the show (4.40pm).
Anyway back to the film. The story centres around two main characters in the form of brother and sister Tricia (Gina Phillips) and Darius (Justin Long). The pair act very well, and are convincible in the parts they portray.
As they drive along this deserted road the action begins! Starting with an old ‘army’ type vehicle running into them and driving them off the road! Little do they know then that the ‘person’ driving this vehicle is ‘smelling’ their fear – he wants something they got! But what isn’t revealed until the very end of the film.
When they see what they think is ‘bodies’ being put into a hole in the ground next to a church, they convince themselves that they need to investigate (who wouldn’t?)
Approaching the old derelict church they soon view the opening where the said actions have happened. Staring down into the hole, they hear a voice…. but who’s is it? Will they investigate further by dropping down into the hole? Will they leave it and go get the police? (Doubt it!)
The film unfolds into an excellent ‘keep you intrigued’ film! Meeting up with a ‘seer’ they soon become aware that they are the next victims of this ‘monster’. He wants something one of them has, but which one? The seer is forced to tell them which one it is, and they promptly demand to know whether her ‘ dreams’ are ever wrong? As for whether they are or not that is told at the end of the film!
I enjoyed this film, mainly because it kept me on the edge of my seat. Nothing was predictable (and when it was I predicted wrong). It was fresh, and interesting – a horror story with a plot! However, a few questions, and you can be rest assured there will be a: ‘Jeepers Creepers 2’, it’s inevitable. The film runs for around 90 minutes and is certificate 15. It is a little scary, but that comes from the ‘suspense’ edge rather than the gore! Although there is a little gore in the film: there isn’t much.
