Jai HIND! JAI MAHARASHTRA! I was wondering if someone wrote a review on jai hind, as I browsed along mouthshut, and I found there was none! Oh what injustice!
Alrite, This place reminds me of my old days at work, where we advertising guys, would love to take a parcel of chicken makhanwala home, catch the 10:10 80 bus, and almost die with the awesome aromatic smell, while keeping our hands at a distance from the prized possession.
Jai Hind, is a petite non-vegetarian restaurant in the hustle bustle of offices, you only have to cross the road, and beside the paan walas, you may find, this little place, where quite a few are eagerly awaiting thier turn, to get their hands on some real good meat and fish!
Ambience: Its decent enough, with green paint its more soothing to the eyes, and there’s a mirror right in front of you, so you can check out what the others ordered. Waiters are kind, and know your urgency to dig in the meat! so well, they hurry with their wares, as fast as they can.If you are lucky, you get a seat by the aquarium, then the ambience is just about perfect!
Food: Oh the food! You get a very good range of Konkani food here. From Fish, crabs, chicken, everything is simply, finger licking, I promise. And if you have plans of taking a vegetarian friend with you, don’t fret, this palce will offer decent veg dishes as well.
We ordered, Chicken Makhanwala of course, then arrived Bharla Bombil, mind you one of the few places where it is available. With Neer dosa, and Roti. while the vegetarians ordered, Jeera alu and paneer tikka masala, with chapati and roti.
Let me elucidate: The chicken in chicken makhanwala comes a little roasted and the gravy is brown, and beautiful. This dish will be buttery and the chicken will be well cooked. An awesome treat, to be had with Roti. The Bharla Bombil we ordered, was very smartly cooked, its more like the bombay duck/bombil paste is made, and it is filled with roasted/fried prawns. The entire package is then fried in chaney ka flour, and isn’t oily at all.Simply perfect, when you dig in, with your fork. The jeera alu, is made well, the masala is not much, but decently merges with the alu. The paneer tikka masala is roasted a little, and the paneer is wholesome, and good, the masalas are entirely diffferent, and have their own unique flavour.
That's the beauty of Jai hind, true to its origins :) If you get to come by lower parel for your next interview, don’t miss Jai Hind, a wonderful restaurant, which will surely be a treat to ur tummy!
