Very late to review this classic, but couldn't resist myself. Finally, we have a biopic in Tamil. Biopics are never attempted in our part of the world. Mani rathnam has dared to swim against the tide of mediocre films over the years. It is a tale of 'iruvar' - Anandan n' Tamil Selvan and their hustles and tussles in their significantly controversial lives.
Ambition, Greed, Jealousy, Women, Lust, Friendship, Power, Mind games are perhaps some of the words that might come up in your head when you watch this film.Sometimes truth is more interesting than fiction, this film is one such work. Aviator, Gandhi, add Iruvar to the list. A significant milestone in Mani Rathnam's career and a landmark film in Tamil Film Industry.Casting -Mohanlal and Prakash Raj match each other scene for scene. Note the scene where Mohanlal sits on a throne shyly and transforms into a powerful king.Or Prakash Raj's expressions when Mohanlal comes late to the Party meeting.
Its a joy watching the two veterans fighting it out for the 'best actor' award!!
