For those who have yet to suffer the abyssmal service that this British Gas offspring provides...take my advice...stick to dialup.

Having had to contend with the recalcitrant boors that man the outfit here in Baroda I wonder why the British didn't just stick to gas.

What does Iqara provide?

-Very average to slow speed for a broadband service.

-Very suspicious download limit schemes that have this uncanny knack of making your account balance vanish into cyberspace.

-Horrible cohesion between the million divisions and sub-divisions that operate independently of each other and as one of their reps told me ''have a chhateez ka aakda'' with each other.

-A band of the most incompetent, irresponsible, downright annoying- drive you into a murderous rage- service staff on the planet.

-A company policy which likes to provide all its employees with cellular phones which they hold so sacred that they wouldn't deign to attend a call on it.

This isn't an internet service provider, this is third degree harassment.

  • They require an immediate down payment before they can even begin to pretend they'll set up your connection.

  • once thats done, you are transferred to a different division thats responsible for cabling.

-a month later, you find out nothing has been done and the person you used to talk to is only in charge of marketing and has no idea about the non-completion of matters that were supposed to have been exhausted in ''maximum 5 days sir,my guarantee...call me if you have any problems''

-6 phone numbers and a 100 unreceived calls later, you finally go down to their office and talk to someone who's in the ''technical'' division.

-a week later your cabling is done, but then apparently the ''crimpting'' is someone else's prerogative.

-for the uninitiated crimpting is basically cutting the cable and attaching a pin at the end of it to insert into your computer..but apparently something that takes 2 mins requires the expert attention of someone from the very busy ''crimpting'' division who shows up after much has been said in anger about a good 2 months after you started out on this ordeal.

was the wait worth it?

No...not really. I've been using this connection for 3 months now and I miss my Dishnet U/L Downloads back home. No more mp3s, no more movies, no more Paris H.... errmm ...too much information. The connection is unstable so I can't even play speed chess, its fine at about 1 in the night when most of the people in my apartment block are asleep...but then there's always a few characters that want to battle out the 40 kbps for their share of .com. Even getting a password recovery needs a form fillup which no one bothers to pick up...all in all a very tiresome, tedious, boring experience.

To anyone thinking about getting broadband I'd suggest getting Dishnet...its expensive but boy its worth keeping your sanity.
