I feel very fortunate that I have IGL, Pipeline Natural Gas(PNG), installed at our home.
This means only convenience. Gone are the days when we had to bear in mind the date when LPG cylinder was put in use & after how many number of days, we are to book the next one. Then there would be long wait for delivery boy to come & deliver. Before that, even booking a cylinder used to be a full day job. The booking agency's phone no. would always be engaged. It was only later when cylinder could be booked online or over centralized phone no., then there was some relief.
Anyway, this PNG gas from IGL has made our lives very convenient. Its supply is 24 hours, just like electricity. Oh! how can I forget, even electricity is not 24 hours, with power cuts every now and then. But PNG is actually 24 hours.
Now the cons:
Meter for PNG has been installed inside the kitchen, unlike electricity & water meters, that are installed outside. Thus, the agency that has been given the contract to do meter reading, sends its boys who enter our house to have the reading. Every time a new boy comes for meter reading. So, one has to be cautious. What if some anti-social element enters our house, on the pretext of meter reading?
Also, their date of arrival is not fixed. So, there are full chances of our house being locked, when the chap visits to have the meter reading.
When we were abroad for 2 months, the meter reading was missed & estimated bill was provided. That was fine. I thought, with the next visit for meter reading, the bill will be adjusted accordingly. And we were very much there at the time of next meter reading. BUT, we again received an Estimated Bill. HOW and WHY it happened after actual meter reading, I failed to understand. I complained online and on phone. Complaint is still pending. But I paid all estimated bills, not wanting to interrupt the gas supply.
So, though it is great to have PNG gas, the meter reading job and IGL complaint follow up system is not worthy of praise.
