I travelled on the 24th October 2023 from Indigo to Doha from Cochin 6E1323 with my two grandchildren. Our final destination was London where we were going for a 10 day vacation combining it with my daughter-in-law's MRCS exam being held in London two days prior.
My son and daughter-in-law went ahead. They are both working in Al Ain and Kuwait respectively. When we reached the check-in counter, the first issue was my name which had the title Mr instead of Mrs. my brother's travel agency had booked the ticket and a person started questioning about that.
I called up my brother he said he had entered the title as Dr and Indigo when a male customer's name is entered as Dr says Mr but a females as Mr and not Mrs. I guess they are still in the 18th century as they have not realised that there are women doctors now. Following that as we were travelling with grandkids they wanted a letter stating no objection from parents.
I gave them the letter given to the British Embassy. He said this is not sufficient to cannot travel, you need it from the Indian Embassy. He called up someone and finally found that the passport had been stamped with a visa that clearly states only allowed to travel with grandparents. The grandkids would not be allowed to travel even with their own parents with that visa.
After all this harassment and passing snide comments such as my son has gone to Al Ain only recently etc (which was because he was in Kuwait and as they were not issuing visas to those above 5 at that time and they couldn't take their older child he had relocated to Al Ain ). Anyway, that was not his concern. My son has valid educational qualifications with which he can eke out a living in India Al Ain or anywhere else by God's grace.
My question is to get the visa we presented all kinds of documents from our educational qualifications, income tax details for the past three years our bank balance deposits etc etc following which we got our visa within a week through the regular process not fast track. After all this, the immigration had no doubts or questions.
Is it the job of the airline to validate our travel visa details?
Then why do we need visa immigration etc?
I will never ever travel by Indigo again. The mental trauma for their parents who were in London US and me calling everyone up was enormous. I can imagine the plight of those who have no idea about what to do.
