I wanted to have a new account at a bank closer to my home for quick access of money, mainly depositing becoz I have seen IOB branches not that crowded but the other banks like SBI, Indian Bank are all seen always heavily crowded. And so I decided to get a new SB Account at a bank which is closer to my house. And I selected the IOB keelkattalai branch.
So one day I just went there to inquire about the types of Accounts available, the procedures, minimum balance required and new account opening forms. I just went to a staff and asked her and she immediately, took the new forms, explained all the details and clarified all my doubts. she was very polite too! Impressed by this, I said thank you and said "will get back next week maam".(this happened last Friday).
So, today I went with the filled up forms, 2 id proof xerox(with originals), 2 photos, a filled up challan and Rs.500.
The outer clerk asked me me to go and see the specialist officer inside(the one who is responsible for opening and closure of accounts) and I went to her and gave all the things. She asked me some asset related questions and it went well. Since I only had the pan card and no xerox of it, I was asked to get one of the same. So I went, took the xerox and gave to her. She immediately primarily approved it. Then since I didt have anyone to introduce for myself to the bank(its a procedure), I asked her wat to do! And She said no problem, u can go and see the Branch manager for 2nd approval.
So, I saw her and she was very polite again. My conversation with her too went very well, the professional way. I also asked her some questions related to the bank and its subsidiary banks and she gave me all the answers I needed very calmly.!
Then I finally I went to the cash counter, paid 500 rupees and even that Cashier was very Friendly and even discussed his personal life about me and I did the same to him!
He finally approved and wished me a best of luck for my future and said I needed to come after 5 days to get my pass book and all! It just took about less that 45 minutes for the whole A/C opening process.! That was fast I suppose!
This was my first ever bank personal experience and I think we all know that "First impression is always the best impression". I was very impressed with their hospitality starting for that clerk to that officer then manager and even the cashier. And overall IOB account opening was an awesome experience. Its surprising to see personals at a govt org so cool and friendly!
Pros -
1) Almost all the staff are very friendly. Even the security guard was polite and friendly to me.!
2) Very Fast account opening process. Less than 1 hrs I guess.
3) Very less crowd at this bank. I like that. Not the like SBI or Indian bank wer u have to get a token and wait for more than 1 hr to get ur Turn!
4) Well organised Office environment. Good for systematic processes.
5) Good parking area for bikes.
6) Easily accessible bank and has its own ATM at the entrance of the bank!
Cons -
the only cons I found was, thou the bank had AC, they never turned it on. My shirt got wet completely due to this!
Overall, "So far So good". It was awesome experience.
Now the question is - Will this awesomeness of theirs survive all the time in coming future!
Update 1(a good one) -
I never did a NFFT Transaction in a bank all by myself so far, because since my mom is working in a bank, she does all the Transaction required for us all, leaving us with no banking related works!
But, this was the first time where I had to transfer money to an another person in Punjab, so I decided to try NEFT all by myself. Before this, I asked my mom the procedures for NEFT and she explained all in Details!
So I went to bank last week, asked them the NEFT form and withdrawal slip(The slips were no there at the counters actually) and they gave them very quick. Then I filled up the details and gave it to the NEFT staff there and no questions asked and no waiting, the Funds Transfer was done!
Process timing - Went to bank by 10am and left by 10:15am. (15 mins)
Update 2(a bad one) -
I mobile number is already active for receiving Transaction details wrt bank through SMS. I was getting the updated for about 15 days! And then I stopped receiving any updates! I went to the bank and informed them, they checked their systems and said "Sir, everything is fine here. You need to contact the tech support and inform them".
But when I contacted the IOB tech support, I received a rude response from that executive and what he wanted me to do is - "go to bank and then call the support from their and then they will talk to the support to resolve the problem". What these support guys think? I am a agent or servant for them.!
