India at 60** is the hottest debate of the nation today lest one forgets that India like China has history as old as ancient Indus Civilisation, Tradition & Culture as old as the Vedas and Religions that have been the mother of all Religions.
Free India is what has come out with many connotations but no inferences have been drawn as to what Freedom has brought to each Individual as part of this Nation and the society.
The need of the hour is Nationalism and not Patriotism to show that we care for our Country only on the day we got Independance.India is shining for many from the Babus who have become Billionaires, the executives who can afford a Flat, the Agriculturist who can send his son to Texas and the Servant maid who can wear new Sarees .
Indian Brands have evolved, may it be a Pulsar or an Indica, Indian Companies have become global giants, India has become a leading Country in the fields of Space Research & Information Technology, Myths have been broken and Women have become a force to reckon in every walk of life. Banking sector has evolved and the economy is worth a Trillion.
But are we in the right direction and is the Nation growing as a Country?
When viewed in global perspective, we are not as a Nation because we are a Nation which is yet to touch double digit GDP, our development index (144) is still to score a double Century while China is booming at 427.Poverty, Feudalism, Corruption, Female infanticide, Bureaucracy in Government sector are still rampant in our Country and so are the Mafia, Terrorists and Naxalites, looming large in the Society. The Elected list still looks like a Wanted List. Fundamentalism and Bigotries are still the cause for social unrest.
All Countries go through such impediments in the path called development, but India as a whole has invented a new Industry called as Money making Industry. There are only two investments needed for this Industry.
They are Self before the Nation and the “beg, borrow, steal, sham, scam” theory where the theory of Fastest Money works wonders. The saying in Telugu-, ” Inti peru Kasturi, inti chutu Gabilala Kampu “ holds very good for every Indian. We want rosy Home, palatial, gorgeous and boastful, but do not care for a clean surrounding. Why on earth, is this space outside our home not considered our world? Money making mission (MMM) is not the way for development of a Nation. Alleviating Poverty, Reinvigorating Education, Investing in rural sector, conserving energy, protecting Environment and reinventing skills are what is needed in today’s youth, considering the fact that they are 24% of the Nation’s population in comparison with spending their income in Malls, movies and Night clubs.
The biggest issues facing the Nation are the levels of Efficiency and Professionalism which can be scaled to a factor of 0.6 compared to China or Japan .The other major setback is going to be the demographical divide between the Urban and the rural because of migration of youth to not so greener pastures for better living.
15 Million jobs are needed every year and where is the industry to provide scales and what about the literacy and imparting skills to today’s youth to rise their level of professionalism with growing demands. The jobs that they have acquired without merit looks bleak and hollow with lack of expertise in handling the new jobs and new opportunities, may it be a BPO or a Broadcaster. In all quality is taking a back seat in the new Shining India because there is no Discipline, Dedication and Devotion (DDD) to work.
On the urban sector, the Cities are choking because of the influx of population and rise of concrete jungle. India should take leaf out of books of Malaysia and China where New Cities are developed with proper urban policy rather than bludgeoning the migration into the existing cities. New economic zones away from the present urban areas and renewed tax sharing reforms should help.
On the rural sector, Indian farmers are still committing suicide, thanks to total neglect from the Babus who have moved to City culture at Centre and Satate. Land reforms, efficient farming techniques (Corporates like Reliance and Heritage have started a good deed for their good), National irrigation policy to circumvent Famine and Floods are still under the pillow.
Last but not the least, What happened to the reforms in Government sector? The Government of India does not want to reform itself when it wants the Industry to reform because they have laid feather beds for Government servants to go for siesta as their Black and white money is assured. If India has to become a developed Nation, we need political reforms to make every Citizen to vote, Judiciary reforms to make every victim not to wait and functional reforms to wake up the Government service.
Let us not pillion ride on the IT boom and say that India is a globally acclaimed Nation whilst we find the biggest brain drain from India to outside. This is for every Indian who has made a living outside. Earn yourself what can make your life and come back home and innovate and invest in this soil which has given birth to you. Let there be strident development in other sectors as well like Infrastructure, Energy and the Core Manufacturing Industry apart from Agriculture. Let us make our Environment eco friendly and as Natural as it can be for a better place for our children to live.
Thanks for reading.
(Lack of space and an intention not to bore readers was the reason for stopping here, but have lot of thoughts on reforms to pour in each sector provided space and time permits.)
