Independence day brags about fireworks and special effects that would only impress people with a 8 second attention span. As far as substance, story and plot goes, this movie deserves to be blown up as much as the aliens did. Independence day is a movie about the world coming together when Aliens came to invade good old planet earth.
One would think that we would get some redemption for the weak story through some great acting. Nothing can be further from the truth. The only thing weaker than the plot and story line is the acting, or lack thereof. They filled this movie with big names: Will Smith and that dude, hmm, I think he was on the fly....well I guess they had one big name on it. In the end, there must be enough cheese on this to fill twenty jars. The dialogue lines were not very substantive, the story development predictable.
Of course, the movie goes through every bit of the dull and predictable manner movies like this go. Aliens arrive, shoot people up, we get sad, then mad, then comes the cheesiest speech that encites us to triumph over adversity. Thats all folks. Nothing more to see here.
The only thing that this movie is good for is some distraction. Too bad that the story did not have a happy ending, the humans won. I was actually rooting for the aliens to win.
