I knew about the ICICI Bank while viewing the KBC-2 Episodes in which Big B used to sign ICICI Bank Cheques. This was my first exposure to the ICICI Bank. Actually, I was more interested in having an ICICI Bank Credit Card. Therefore, I responded to an online advertisement of ICICI Bank, and applied for a Credit Card. Came the reply that I am above 75, and hence my request for a Credit Card has been declined.
One fine morning an ICICI Customer Care Executive called me and asked me if it was possible for me to come to Sambalpur ( 3 hours by Road / Rail ). I thought that this was unusual for a Customer Care Executive to ask a Customer to come down to his Office to meet him. I politely declined. I thought the matter was over.
On the 12th of this month, the same young man of ICICI again called me and asked me to come down to Sambalpur so that he would close his File. I told him that I have just arrived from Delhi, and would not be able to make it. I also advised him to close the File.
The ICICI Customer Care Executive should have known about my background. I have been a Globe Trotter with UNESCO/UNICEF/ UNDP assignments in Indonesia, Vietnam, and other countries of Southeast Asia, operating Accounts in Chemical Bank, New York, and having American Express, Diner's Club and Citi Bank Credit Cards.
As a Trainer of long standing, my advice to the young ICICI Customer Care Executive and others like him is : AGGRESSIVE SALESMANSHIP, FOLLOWING THE DICTUM " MORE YOU TELL, MORE YOU SELL" DOES NOT ALWAYS RESULT IN SUCCESS.
