“I am Sam” the movie, which takes me, more close to The Beatles. This review is not at all about the movie, but about its connection with The Beatles.

The Director wanted to use only “Beatles” soundtrack for the movie but they couldn’t get the rights to use the songs legally hence they decided to do Beatles cover. And then happened 16 beautiful soundtracks by 16 great artists. Ben Harper's version of ''Strawberry Fields Forever,'' Sarah McLachlan's ''Blackbird'' and the Black Crowes playing ''Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. “Mother’s nature son” was done by Sheryl crow, “I am looking through you” by wallflowers and “you gotta hide your love away” by eddie veddar (of Pearl Jam).

Tempering with the original Beatles songs is like dialing DEATH, but these artists succeeded in doing this so beautifully that even a die-hard fan of “The Beatles” will love this cover version.

Now its time for trivia:

  1. The character from the Dr. Seuss book “Green Eggs and Ham” inspired the movie title.

  2. The scene where Sam, Lucy, and Sam's friends are walking across the street with the balloons is a tribute to famous photograph of The Beatles crossing the street from the cover of ''Abbey Road''.

  3. After Rita gives Sam the suit her husband left behind, he refers to her as Lovely Rita. This is a reference to the Beatles song ''Lovely Rita Meter Maid'' from ''Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band''.

Now very little about the movie:

Sean Penn plays Sam, a Beatles-obsessed Starbucks cleaner with the mental age of seven. Somehow he makes a homeless woman pregnant who disappears latter after giving birth to a girl child named Lucy by Sam (inspired by the song “Lucy in the Skies with Diamonds”). Until Lucy reaches seven everything goes smooth and with fun in their life but once she hits age seven she comes on par with the mental level of Sam. From here the problem starts as the social organizations as a gesture of doing social service try to separate Lucy from Sam in order to give her a good upbringing. To win her back, Sam goes to court. Now what happens next …only the movie can tell.

You will love the scenes where Sam gives references of ''The Beatles''.
