The Hyundai Verna that came with the fluidic design language is now more than five years old. Hyundai will bring the new Verna next year and this what it will look like. The expected car was first shown at the Chengdu Motor Show in China followed by its launch.
The Verna that is sold in China comes with similar engine options as the one currently sold in India. The 1.4-litre petrol develops 100bhp while the 1.6-litre produces 122bhp of power – similar to the India-spec cars. Since diesel engines are banned in China, India will get the 1.4-litre and the 1.6-litre diesel engine options in India with power delivery similar to the existing engines. Both petrol and diesel engines will get six-speed manual gearboxes while the six-speed automatic transmissions will be offered only on the 1.6-litre engines.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna styling is inspired by the new Elantra that was launched in India recently. The hexagonal chrome lined grille gets horizontal slats and the air dam gets a honey comb mesh grille. The swept back headlamps come with black inserts. The profile continues with the coupe-ish sloping roofline and a strong shoulder-line that extends to the boot. The 2017 Verna measures at 4, 380mm length, 1, 728mm width and 1, 460mm tall up from 4375mm, 1, 700mm and 1, 475mm respectively.
The new Verna will compete against the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Nissan Sunny in the C-segment and is expected to be priced marginally above its current tag of about Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
