I was looking for a Diesel Car for the simple reason that my new job involved a lot of travelling. I had used a Zen diesel earlier for around 3 years and was quite happy with its performance(I know lotsa folks think otherwise).
I had now narrowed my choice down to the Ford Fiesta TDci and the Hyundai Verna VGT( I confess to doing an internet research on the new Swift diesel too).My budget of around 800000/- on road price did not allow me to go beyond these three cars.
The test drive of the Fiesta Diesel was OK.Thats the right word I guess.just about OK! I found the interiors cramped a bit and the drive wasn't too exciting.The claimed mileage of around 20-21 did sound impressive though.
The Hyundai Verna was a different thing altogether.The pick up was WOOOOOOOOOOOW!
I test drove it at KLG Hyundai, Chandigarh.The sales executive was very helpful and explained the various benefits over the Ford Fiesta( though he couldnt explain the benefit of the Verna having a higher Torque.I still dont know exactly how a higher Torque helps).Anyways the test drive sealed my decision in favor of the Vena even though it was a lil bit more expensive and didn't have freebies like a stereo, spkrs etc.
I have driven it around 2000 km till now(in around 20 days), both locally in Chandigarh and also on the highway to places around 250 kms from here.Was careful to follow the Hyundai reccommendations of keeping the RPM below 3K for the first 1000 kms as well the speed limits(though I took it to the max within those limits).Driving on the highway was a sheer pleasure with the effortless overtaking in 4th and 5th gears.Good power delivery and I couldnt find any of the problems mentioned in so many reviews on the internet as well as auto magazines about its handling.Found it very satisfactory.I got a mileage of 18-19(both city and highway combined with around 40% of the driving in city conditions) using Turbojet Diesel.
Have got the first service done at 1500 kms which was short and sweet and took around 3 hrs.Will write more about my experience with this wonderful car as I drive it more.
In conclusion, Guys go and buy this car if u are looking for power, pick up, mileage within a budget of 800000/-
