This review is continuation for our quest for new entry level cars for my relative. He is new to driving and wanted to go for 2nd hand cars, and after some discussions, we decided to try out few of the new entry segment hatchback(other then Nano). First we drove Maruti Alto 800, and this review is about Eon, we targeted to by Era+ version mostly due to budget constraint. The variant that we got for test drive was red colour Sportz model.
Now this review is nothing to do with any of the technical and other specs, which one can find in most of the auto websites. This is purely my experience of driving the car.The car sales men came on time(except traffic delays), and he was very cooperative in terms of allowing us to drive up to 5-6 KM near Nizampet, Hyderabad. First impression, looks of the car was good, If I felt better then maruti. As per the sales person its because of the new fluid design.
Pros
1) You can get into the car with easy and no need to bend while boarding any of the seats, which I feel is good for old people with ankle/knee problems.
2) The road visibility was good once you get on to driver seat, which is good for those of us who are new to driving.
3) The steering is very apt, and can be controlled with ease. Its very lite and would be very useful for new driver and particularly of females are driving.
4) Engine is better powered than alto so more pic up which you use in typical city traffic.
5) We get 2yr, unlimited KM warranty by default, which is good for those of you, who plan to use it to extreme.
6) Generally(as per my experience of being ex-owner of Santro) the after sales service is better then Maruti's and Tata's
7) You can expect reasonable resale value if you are planning to switch to high end models once you are comfortable with driving.
8) it come with tubeless tires.
9) The price of the ERA version is aggressive enough to lure most of the Maruti customers who contemplate of going for Alto 800
10) It comes with tubeless tyres
11) It has double side impact beam safety wise its good.
Cons
1) The ERA model which we planned to buy do not have left mirror as default accessories which is bit confusing.
2) The gear shift is not as smooth as we use to observe in Santro and am not quite what might be reason behind it.
3) I own Optra magnum, so when I test driving this car, I felt its very light and cannot be driving over 100kmpm. But that what this car is meant for so this might not be a true CON
4) I feel air bag should be mandated in all cars, so this is CON for all those which do not have one
Overall we have been offered some discounts which makes this VMF.
Happy Driving.
