When I saw the review for House of Wax, I must say I was skeptical. I mean, Paris Hilton's first 'real' film? But after one quiet evening, friend and I decided to pay the 10 dollars and see the movie.
The cast includes Paris Hilton(Paige), Elisha Cuthbert(Carly) who also played in The Girl Next Door'', the lovely Chad Michael Murray(Nick) and Jared Padalecki, playing Wade.
This movie is a re-make of the film in 1953 from producers Robert Zemeckis and Joel Silver.
The movie begins as the group of friends are driving to go see a huge football event. After a long drive in traffic, they decide to camp in a nearby site and leave early in the morning. All of the sudden, a large truck goes towards the site, and parks with his huge head lights on them. The group are very uncomfortable, and eventually, the truck drives away, leaving the group very unsettled.
As everyone settles into their tents, Paige paces around, knowing that she has to tell her boyfriend Wade that she is pregnant. She decides to wait and get some sleep. A few hours later she hears a noise outside her tent. Of course, being so typical, Paige goes outside in her undergarments and see whats going on. She feels scared when she doesn't find anything.
After sleeping in after a long night of partying, the group wakes up late. Wade is determined to go see the football game. Before they leave, Paige and Carly get a wiff of a horrible, disgusting smell, and decide to see what it is. They soon find out that it a place where everyone throws the road kill.
They clean up and get ready to leave, but Wade's car is missing. So they have to take a creepy ride with the man who cleans up the road kill.
As they go into this secluded town, everything seems strange, and intriguing. As Wade and Carly explore the infamous House of Wax, and thats when everything goes down hill. They find out that there was a group of twins, who had a mother who loved to make was sculpture. Through the adventures of murder and torture, Nick and Carly help each other survive, and realise that they are brother and sister, and need each other to live.
That's all I'm going to reveal.
The acting in the movie, was actually rather decent. Paris Hilton's 10 minute role however, was disgraceful. The camera effects seemed a little under budget, but were made fairly well. The plot was quite predictable, but was entertaining.
Overall, I would not recommend this movie. Although if you enjoy fast paced thrillers, check this one out.
