A real life story that will move you.

Hotel Mumbai has Dev Patel, Jason Isaacs, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi as lead characters. It also stars Anupam Kher. It has been directored by Anthony Maras.

Hotel Mumbai recounts the story of the 2008 seige of the famed Taj hotel by a group of terrorists in Mumbai, India and the dedicated staff members of the hotel who choose to risk their life to protect their guests. Also a couple makes tremendous sacrifices to protect their new born child.

The movie also has Jason Isaac’s sleazy Russian businessman who dines nearby, Mumbai police officers who infiltrate the hotel and get to the CCTV cameras, Dev’s character’s wife and an Australian couple backpacking across India and how these events affect each of their life differently.

Although there are so many characters in the movie, the films narrative is not disturbed. Also, the movie equally pays emphasis to how the locals lives are disrupted after the attack unlike other movies of this genre that prefer to show only the Americans and foreigners overcoming these tragic circumstances.

The fact that the position of guest and staff does not change even in such a situation shows how huge a role class and status plays in Indian societies.

There is a lot of violence in the film and sometimes there are attempts to humanize the terrorists by giving them funny lines. However, there is a lot of tension in the film from the motive of some men to harm and the impact that it has on others and the film gets difficult to watch in parts, but no doubt the film is worth watching.
