Aah...This is the album I was looking forward to. Okay that was the lie. Believe it or not, this was the first MM album I was introduced to. And it has remained the favorite one, in my mind. I own all the MM studio albums as well as The Last Tour On Earth. This is definitely miles ahead of the others, in terms of quality (and quantity).
To date, I still haven't heard every song, but I know that every time I decide to listen to a new song seriously, on this album, I immediately find a liking to it. I'll come to that later. This album starts off with the introduction of GodEatGod. I can't really rate this because I've never actually heard it properly.
Then comes the onslaught. Spurred off by The Love Song, MM follows up with a series of great tracks: The Fight Song, Disposable Teens, Target Audience, President Dead. Fight Song is probably one of my favorites, followed by Disposable Teens. Target Audience, too, is a great song and an easy one to perform on guitar. Everything is great about this album - vocals, drums, guitar riffs. The only thing that might throw one off is the lyrics - which is highly anti-Christ.
I manage to block this out but this might be more of a problem to other people. I will not touch further on the topic as it is quite a touchy subject!
The next song to watch out for is The Nobodies (Track 10), which is another song with the organ and a simple but great-sounding drumbeat. The Death Song has recently become one of my favorites because of its catchy tune and guitar riffs. The Lamb of God is an awesome slow song, where Manson is actually whisper-singing.
Track 14 is Burning Flag, which sounds good at first but turns irritable later. However, it is still a song to hear at least a few times (and it has an irresistable beat). Coma Black is one more good song, although it is another slow song. One might get the feeling that Manson is going soft in this album (especially after Mechanical Animals) but if one listens carefully, one is able to see the depth in this album. Some CDs also have the bonus track - The Nobodies (Acoustic) where Manson is singing alone in what seems to be in a shower because of the echo. He is accompanying himself on the acoustic guitar.
Overall, this album is too good an album to miss out on. If you don't like the themes presented by MM, just feast on the great music and the different sounds to MM's voice. Another MM track to watch out for is ''Tainted Love'' from Not Another Teen Movie and Manson's various tracks on the Resident Evil soundtrack. Also, watch out for MM's new album - The Golden Age of Grotesque, coming out around May 15th.
