Hi,
I come again to write on bikes (read my earlier articles on Washing machines & Cars).
I would quote ''Splendor from Hero Honda would be most successful edevours of Hero Honda in Indian Market''
By 2004 end, sales reached over 0.5 millon which is a craze driven by a promise of a brand, proven by the expertise of engineering and backed by perfomance guarantees and fuel effeciencies on road. Who could escape this force of temptation to buy one Splendor in a family?
When I established a search for bikes, I had few things in my mind, which I would suggest every buyer should have in mind. They are determinants for your selection as well as detrimentals if wrongly selected.
1) Cost- What is your target cost/range over and below which you ''WON'T'' slip, whatever (I SAY WHATEVER) happens !!!
2) Size, Height, Weight- If at all there are constraints i.e a girl (ofcourse a tomboy/tormcat girl) won't prefer a high seated bike, or a short guy won't prefer a high seat ride. A lame fellow won't like heavier versions of any make
3) Fuel Hungry V/s Power Macho- We guys tend to loose our metabolism here and give-in to some idiotic deals which cost us every way in long run.
Fundamentally, by principles of IC engines and laws of thermodynamics (as explained by Sadi Carnot and accepted by the world, even the PULSAR engineers !), the more you look for power in a bike, lesser would it be fuel effecient. By increasing the bore of the cylinder, or stroke of the cylinder indirectly increasing the swept volume (we term it as CC- cubic centimeters of engine swept volume). More the swept volume lesser would be volumetric effeciency for that clylinder (though its not linear) and hence less power.
Tell me frankly, why do you need more power? How much power you need?
You get bikes from 7.5 BHP to 25 BHP, from 80 CC- 300 CC. Whats ur NEED?
Your need is decided from whether you are
Only the city rider out of these should and would go for a Splendor which is about 97 CC and 9 IHP (based on Imep).
All others go for a higher swept volume and a higher BHP rating (without knowing their IHP) thinking its a higher power bike, but they don't know that in future, they are going to get into nitches of knocking, fuel ineffeciencies and breakdowns.
I bought a splendor in 2001 and since 2001, NOT A SINGLE TIME, my bike visited a workshop for any repairs or maintenance, except service and oil changes. Not a puncture, not a break fail, not any breakdowns..nothing. What do you call this? STUNNING PERFORMANCE. I & my bike have celebrated already 5 years of excellence.
At pockets its a little costly (it costed me Rs. 44262 on road) but keep in mind, its THE ONLY BIKE WITH THE HIGHEST RE-SALE VALUE TOO . Even today, people want to offer me Rs. 35000 for my bike. Which means average depreciation/year comes to about Rs 3000 which is peanuts as compared to the way I have used the bike.
I have travelled more than 34000 Kms on the same without an ITCH !
If you want Performance linked power and backing from a renowned company, go for Hero Honda Splendor. It is my choice forever.
Hats off Hero Honda !! Keep it up. I am proud to be one of the owners of Splendor ''World's single largest selling motorbike''
I could not highlight many other bikes here, though I could, but I thought let me put one only for splendor.
