HDFC life insurance online policies are cheapest among all insurance products but request the general public not to get carried away by it. Their service is substandard to the core. This service is during the policy issue stage, you can imagine what would be the kind of service, in the unfortunate event of the risk happening - I am sure HDFC life will never help our family members to get the sum assured and instead, they will make them run for their money. In fact, I came to know that online insurance are prone to greater risks as insurance agencies can claim any lacunae, that will help them not to pay the sum assured. Request everybody to be aware of the same and specifically, in case they intend to go to HDFC life - their online team is a bunch of jokers and will keep asking the same questions - they are have many trainees in their team and they get trained by talking to us, asking for the same questions and details. That is frustrating to the core.
I had taken up a Term Insurance Policy for Rs.75 lacs in the month of August 2015 - Proposal no 17830243 and Application No S100000242152 and finished my medical check up on 5th september. I did not hear for nearly three weeks and then I send a mail to them, only after which they woke up and started looking at what has gone wrong. I have now requested for cancellation of the proposal and refund of the complete money but they are not helping in that too. I have requested for details of top management for escalation, as defined in their site(they have not given the contact details of those managers) they are not providing that too.
I got a call on 26th september - initially HDFC Life representative stated that I have not done my medical check and I have not submitted any documents, But then I had to explain to them that I have personally handed over the documents to their Coimbatore office on 4th september and the concerned manager, after making me wait for more than hour(he made me sit in a corridor and write some letter regarding my past and future travel abroad and did not turn up for more than an hour to get that document - finally he came out for some purpose and only then he remembered that he has to attend to me). I specifically asked the officer whether I need to furnish any other documents and he categorically informed me that he has got all documents and satisfied with it . Next day, I had handed over letter for medical check up to one Prabhu medical foundation, referenced by HDFC life itself and had done all tests that were required by the diagnosis center and also given them whatever documents they required. Initially HDFC life claimed that they have not received any documents and then when informed, they verified and informed me that they have not received photograph and past and future travel details. When I informed them on why the concerned office did not tell me when I handed over it personally and even after 20 days, they do not have answer. Then came another rejoinder stating that they have received past and future travel details and only photograph is missing. When I asked them to collect it from me, they refuse to do so because it is an online insurance plan. I then categorically informed that I will not take any action to upload or visit their branches.
I have given sufficient opportunities to HDFC life to solve the problem and looking at an appropriate time to approach Insuraance ombudsman. I have also claimed damages from HDFC for wasting my time and the frustration that I have faced.
I have many other policies from HDFC life and I have faced the same issue. Since their premiums are at least 20% lower than other insurance companies, I approached them but now feel that I have been Penny wise Pound foolish.
