I used to be a customer of HDFC bank and the key reason for withdrawing the account would be highly uncooperative, rude and non responsive bank. This is a bank who does not even recognise Government documents like the passport.
Just for a simple change of maiden to married name, I was made to run around for almost 3 weeks before I gave up. The bank does not accept Passport and PAN card as valid signature and name proofs. Strange, isn't it? What is good for Govt of India is not good for the HDFC bank.
When I ran around to check the status of my application, the phone banking guys are clueless of the same. The ground personnel are downright rude and uncommunicative.
The bank does not even care about wanting to retain customers, especially when they have been with you for over 5 years. They have a rude.who cares kinda attitude. Even SBI treats u politely and asks u the reason for withdrawal.
There are no extraordinary facilities with the bank. Their internet banking is lousy. The phone bankers are clueless. ATMs are few and scattered(again strangely, none of them are close to any shopping/ prime areas). The staff is rude! And everything .inckluding sms alerts is charged for by the bank.
All the above facilties are far better in banks like ICICI and SBI. I would strongly recommend people to avail these banks instead of HDFC. Believe me it is a less of a headache and more pleasureable.
