Do you like Fantasy films? Do you like horror films? If you like both, chances are that you will like Haunted.
Lately making a horror film itself is a horror where the audience enters the theatre with 'we have seen it all', ' we know it all 'you cannot scare me' attitude. To break these reservations, one has to be really creative and should go beyond the expectations of the audience. The prize is big like the challenge and only few come out as winners. The question is, whether 'Haunted 3D' pass this qualifying mark?
The story is almost the same 'classic' tale where a ghost haunted mansion and the hero's attempts to save the mansion from the ghosts. For a change here there is a love angle developed, of course that cannot be done without time travel.
The movie will be liked mostly by people who are ready to give away the pre conventions of reality which seek logic for each action. If you are expecting too much of creativity at this end you may be disappointed but the writers did a decent job in making the story interesting. In fact the love angle especially the song distracts the audience concentration and reduces the effect. The mobile comedy and the rock dance qualify for deletion straight away. Fun and scare is not a perfect pair. The snake episode doesn't do any good for the movie as it shows the weakness. Otherwise the writing is good.
About the 3 D effects. Ok, this is my first 3 D experience. There are really interesting scenes in the film which makes us to applaud the sense of feel we get from it. You will appreciate brilliant scenes like hair of the sufi coming out, the hand seeking help, bricks coming to you etc. Oh yes, there is a 3 D kiss and an attempted rape as well. Then best of the scene I think is the flying scene of the witch. Even when many moving shots failed to reach perfection this one makes it real. Natural beauty is captured well and it is as if we are there.
The Horror effects are good on the lower end. It may not give you that chill which you feel when you are really haunted. Too much of movements of doors are no more a good option to create horror. Few cut heads tries to tease you but repetition of it spoils a bit. Still it has everything in an average horror movie. So it is a 50:50 in horror department.
Performance by MahaAkshayis strictly ok. Tia Bajpai is impressive. Rest of the cast is competent in their respective roles.
Music is ok but it not adds any extra points for the film. (Vikram Bhatt has to rethink his strategy on songs where I doubt he fails to see that a part of Raaz success is contributed by its music and of course romance to create the situation correctly)
Sound effects could have been much better. Cinematography is very good. Editing is competent.
Overall, I will say, if you are to watch the movie as 3 D it is a good one and go for it. If you are watching it 2 D, I may say it is a pretty average movie on the better side.
By the way an angel is following me for some time and it was the same this weekend as well. Luv Ka The End have Rhea as leading character and Haunted have a Rehan as leading character and you don't believe, often I got the images of Rhea in Meera (It is purely personal. You may not see it or believe it, but true - so much so that often I wonder why there is a different girl when I see images of Meera on screen!)
