That's what was inscribed in our ancestral home mirror. But, when ur tensed one can hardly smile. That made me pen the following:
TENSION
Tension has no dimension,
and is often a self creation!
It is caused by even a mention of
anything which affects ones concentration.
And, can be of a minute to day’s duration.
Tension can be a contagious affliction
without any sense of direction, and
is a problem of every generation?
Tension big or small, one can’t
really understand the bane of contention.
Because, this has no comparison to any
other kind of sensation.
And, due to this perpetual confusion
one behaves like a cartoon in an
animation.
While Newton could deduce the law of
gravitation, this unique phenomenon
cannot even offer an explanation.
Behind this narration also, was
a motivation by the inexplicable condition
Tension. Tension Tension.
For all of you who are stressed out, that’s what I do put my feelings on paper. If ur really
Really stressed, may not be a good idea to share the paper with others, then the stress would become a pain in the bones:-)
Bottom line root cause of stress is not being able to express ones feelings and they get bottled up and unlike coke they don’t fizz out, you just get a very bad migraine.
Stress is a new evil of our modern society. In old times, naani would be in the kitchen the whole day rolling out chappathis, chai, samosa etc etc, did she ever stress out nope, she sang to herself while cooking as she listened to ‘vividh bharathi’, ‘chaayageet’, ‘man chahe geet’ etc. Changing times reveal a more stressful situation in a similar background.
Stress: Is like a hot sour and spicy soup brewing on a medium flame.
Tension and Stress are synonymous, tension makes up the veggies, pepper powder, chilli sauce to the stress soup. Its nothing but the reason…for the soup err. stress. Well, to
unspice the soup we add white sauce, corn flour, lime juice and lots of water. Need to do something similar to de-stress~
How to Handle Stress?
Get a handle on the situation which leads to stress. Block out the unpleasantness. Ignore Ignore and Ignore really helps. Since this condition is so generic, need to get specific. Will categorize these into:
a) Stress at work
b) Stress on the home-front
c) Stress on the road(while driving etc)
d) General stress, no reason is needed for some to get stressed: cannot help ilk in this category, help yourself. Make good soup drink it, read my poem and get stressed.:-) Don’t worry be happy~
STRESS BUSTERS AT WORK
Organize your work. Have a task list and to do list for each day and try to meet the targets set by you.
Be time-conscious and efficient.
If your superiors or sub-ordinates are approachable, setup a one on one with them and try and talk the situation, project deadlines etc with them
Take a break with like-minded colleagues and have a laugh or two, talk about something silly – really helps.
Listen to music with headphones on for a little bit, not the whole time then you end up missing out on important work discussions( and the gossip too:-), just kidding.)
Take a walk outside, blows off the steam.(weather permitting of course)
Don’t carry stress from home and treat patients with a scorn and greet colleagues with a smirk. Instead read ‘Dilbert’s’ or ‘Peanut’ and get a:-)
And the last one would be if the workplace has you sooo stressed out that you dread going to work the next day, look for another one.
STRESS BUSTERS AT HOME
Plan and prepare ahead for the week. Don’t lose sleep over cooking.
Be patient with parents, spouses, siblings and kids. Communicate, speak and listen and listen some more. Encourage a healthy dialogue.
Have a mandatory family time, a time when the whole family can spend time together whether its tea-time, supper or dinner.(not TV time)
Listen to Mozart, Beethoven or Pt. Ravishankar, Hariprasad Chaurasia or any music u enjoy.
Cultivate a hobby – gardening, cooking, painting, singing, dancing etc. Spend time for yourself.
Do chores laundry, grocery, bills during week-days so you can have a whole week-end. Plan to so some kind of outside activity over the week-ends.
Yoga and meditation are great stress-busters.
Last one on this dedicated to my dear babhi – she comes home after a stressful day and once she freshens up, u can see her thaali in hand kneading and punching away at the dough with great élan – what a treat to watch.
STRESS BUSTERS ON THE DRIVE
Don’t drive when ur stressed out. You have to be 100% fit to drive.
Take directions/maps to and fro if you are visiting someplace new. Really helps.
Have phone numbers handy to call in case you lose the way.
Listen to soothing music on the drive not lullabies. No point honking or yelling at the driver in front of you, it’s anyway going to take the same time to reach home.
Have high-energy snacks for the drive, skip caffeine or carbonated beverages. Drink lots of water and of course don’t drink(alcohol) and drive.
Go to the restroom before you start driving.
Honk loudly if you see those poor little squirrels or birds on the road.(wow this really stresses me out)
Drive within speed-limits, roads are not race-car courses.
If you’ve read this and are not yet stressed that’s a good sign and if you r, that was not my intention.
Now if you are stressed whether to ‘NR’, ‘SR’, ’R’, ‘HR’ this revvu, can save you some of that stress, just HR(hanste raho) …
Stressssssssss that, please do comment if un-stressed time permits.
Keep smiling
:-) Riya
