After reading the touching review by Abbey, I just had to write a few lines on this subject of DEPRESSION.
I have witnessed depression, and I cannot forget a few things which have left its mark on my mind . I am compelled to share these with you dear Readers.
The first tell tale sign that you notice in the Depressed person is the lack of interest.Maybe he himself would'nt know that he is going into depression and so would the others around him. By then it is a more aggravated case of depression. A depression that has taken a deeper hold on the person.
He will stay sitting quietly or lying on the sofa and just gazing, or break into tears too easily for the slightest reason. Usually his eyelids will keep shutting and he will keep sleeping or find it hard to stay awake at all times of the day. You have to seek medical help immediately and first rule out any other physical illness.
Most dangerous, such a person should NEVER BE LEFT ALONE! He tends towards Suicide. And will take the opportunity to do so as soon as he has the chance. So make sure there are people around him at all times of the day and night.
I distinctly remember the psychologist say that one of the ways to stop a person from Suicidal tendencies(usually attributed to Depression) is to make him LIVE FOR THE FUTURE. Remember, Life stops having any Meaning, when you have NOTHING to live for and then Death slowly takes hold of Life.(This is true for all normal persons too and even more so for the sick) You have got to make him believe that he is'absolutely needed' by certain persons close to him who just cant do without him. He has to be made to believe that'he is totally responsible' for someone's future! The person could be some close relative or friend whose life and future would depend fully on him. And he has to 'live for that person's sakes'.One has to look forward to something to live exactly like a drowning man looking out for a hold/support. So the bottom line here is, HE HAS TO BE GIVEN A REASON TO LIVE FOR! A strong one too, to which he would be forced to exert all his mental and physical energies. A CAUSE to live and to which, be committed, as it is totally up to him to save and look after the cause!
I write this with a total recall from a long lost past.Hope I am able to do some justice in my efforts to alert and save some person from this silent malady.
PS: I have heard that eating processed food always, gives rise to MOOD SWINGS and instability of mind. Salads, fruits and whole grain are some Natures pure health tonics, suitable for achieving a strong body and an alert, well functioning mind.
