THE GREAT INDIAN NIGHTMARE. Review on Great Indian Dream, The - Arindam Chaudhuri

I read Count you chicken before they hatch by the same author a long time ago – I guess I was in class in 1st year of my graduation that time and I was reasonably impressed by the book though it was basically a copy cat act for a multitude of foreign authors. But it was good read – Theory ‘i’ management was a good concept and the ideas taken from Holy Gita.

I picked up this book expecting some thing same but I tell you it was a nightmare finishing this book. If, after reading this book by this so-called management guru, u still call him a management guru then I tell you there is something seriously wrong with you definition of management guru.

The Great India Nightmare – Part 1st

The book is divided in three parts. The 1st part of the book is really terrible portion of the book. For some 100 pages the author keeps on rambling about things that you can read in almost every editorial of every newspaper almost everyday.

He talks about our rotten system, the legal system that sucks, corrupt civil servants, corrupt politicians and God knows what else. After reading this first part one starts to believe that India as a country sucks and the system is completely rotten and on the verge of a collapse. Author cites various facts and figures but even that cannot keep you interested in reading garbage about our rotten system because we already know the system sucks. We read about it everyday, hell we see it everyday.

So the first section of the book really is a big bore to read. There is not one single new thing in whole lot of chapters. Thought there are some good statements made here and there but that does not impresses you because for 90% of this section it is CRAP.

The Nightmare Continues!!

In the second section the author suggests a new idea on the grounds of The Great American Dream, he suggests The Great Indian Dream. Pretty impressive huh!!

But surprisingly in the whole bloody section I wasn’t even able to define what exactly is this Great Indian Dream. The author talks about the ways to improve the system, suggests some ways to re-distribute some resources here and there. He gives some ideas that hits a nail on the head but then again for most part it is CRAP again. The author isn’t able to define his Great Indian Dream. But comparing it with the horrible start of the book, this section is pretty impressive. It is interesting to read and the author keeps on making good and readable statements, gives some nice ideas. But there is nothing to quote from the book or something so important that I’d tell you here. Just read it for yourself, thoughI suggest u skip the whole section 1st and go to second section directly after the introduction.

The Nightmare Ends!! OH GOD!!

Finally this terrible book comes to an end, the 3rd and final section that is equally crap as other sections were. Here in the co-author of the book has contributed some chapters that make no sense if read in light of the central idea of the book (which is defined in Intro of the book), but make a little bit of sense if read individually. The author ends the book with some more absurd suggestions of raising financial resources and using them and certain other such things. This section is also more or less CRAP.

Why you should not read this book?

The main reason is that there isn’t anything to read. The book fails comprehensively on all its promised grounds. The book promises to be a common man’s book to understand economics. It fails. Then in promises to give us a new concept that will revive us as Indians – the Great India Dream, which is again a nightmare to read. The book is not impressive in its language also. There are some good statements make in between but that is not good enough.

The bottom line is this – you should not read this book because there are much better things to read on same topic than this book.
