The protagonists meet on holi and the seductress act by the actress compels the actor to fall in love with her. They are so much in love that they elope( ignoring the wars in the backdrop), dragged back to the village, become enemies( apparently!) and finally, end their lives! Sounds cliched. Yeah! you heard it before! Many a times. SLB mentioned that in the starting credits that its based on Romeo-Juliet but wait! Romeo Juliet made sense somewhere. Ishaqzaade did too but Ramleela! hah! Let's do the postmortem.
Story: The unoriginal story-line with two families who are rivals from the last 500 years and people who are hell bent to fight with each other with no reason per se. The only person against this hatred, who believes that if the blood shed stops, flowers will bloom in the region is Ram( Ranveer singh) .He belongs to one clan( some ranjad or something!) and deepika is the daughter of supriya pathak( another clan sanaris or whatever!).The love story starts on holi and ends on dusshera! In between the two festivals, they sneak off, they are deceived by their friends and family members, dragged to the shithole again and finally kill each other out of love. The love story, the chemistry not even once looks convincing. Its more of a lust-story than a love story
There are many loose ends which create chaos.Example-Why Ram simply stopped answering leela's calls/sms after returning from the unfulfilled honeymoon! .why Raam was not informed about the act of his friends with leela's bhabhi? and why the hell the shooting game was initiated in the first place? Why Raam dint take revenge from his friends when they sent sms from his cellphone to Leela's brother? What nonsensical movie!
Its a complete copy of Ishaqzaade and in bits and pieces of QSQT too.The difference is, while ishaqzaade had logic, sense, emotions and superb songs, this movie has none. The climax is a proof enough how blindly the story writer copied from the aforesaid flick. In ishaqzaade the protagonists kill each other because they reach a deadend. In this flick, they ae not actually sure that there is a deadend ahead and they hastily decide to kiss and kill! Use some common sense and logic Mr.Story writer.Audience is neither foolish nor blind!
Direction: The less you talk about direction, the better it will be.After the box office debacle of Sawariya, SLB did it yet again! Another flick with larger than life set and zero output. One aspect in which he improved was using colours which he so strictly despised in his earlier movie, the so called blue film "sawariya".The sets were good and colour co-ordination was splendid.I wonder where is the SLB who gave us Hum dil de chuke sanam, khamoshi, devdaas? Is he dead or is he suffering from multiple personality disorder!
Starcast: Doesnt matter much.Everything and every aspect was so against the star-cast that whosoever was selected for this flick, the end result would have been the same-Disaster.Ranveer tries his "chichora/besharam/sadak chaap/womanizer" act once again. He acts well and expresses various emotions quiet efficiently.Deepia is improving with every performance and she did a great job in this movie as well.Looked beautiful, acted in an effortless manner and danced gracefully.Supiya pathak looked villanious.I missed the hansa of khichdi. She is an accomplished actress and judging her acting skills will be an insult of her talent.2 bhabhis provided the much needed masala.
Music:
Few tracks are good.Raam chahe leela and PC's perfect dance steps( treat for the eyes), dham dham dhol baaje were good. But the music score is nowhere compared to other products from SLB's house.Sawariya had beautiful songs, HDDS-WOW they were, Devdas, Khamoshi.you name it and you will get melodious tracks in return.Raamleela-a black mark to SLB's brand of music.
Final verdict: There is nothing much left to say.Taking into account all the plus points-Deepika+ Ranveer+ PC's item song+ Movie's sets, this movie deserves nothing more than 1 star as per my review.
