This review is on the Pre-paid auto service in Chennai Central Railway Station.
When a traveller reaches the city of Chennai, the first person he encounters is the Auto Rickshaw driver. And there goes the image of Chennai. Chennai has one of the largest number of autos plying on roads in India. I don't all are bad, but you can only find a few who are good, and those ones are lost in the crowd. Almost everyone who travels to Chennai, even a few of the Chennaites are well harassed by the Auto drivers, when they travel through the city.
Now I guess, the government has realised it and has introduced the Pre-Paid Auto Service. I am not saying that this is the first place to have a pre-paid auto service. I have seen it much before in Bangalore. But, this service is pretty apt for Chennai travellers.
Some Tips:
When you come out of Central Railway Station, you will find a booth on your right side which says ''Pre-Paid Auto and Taxi''.
Try not to fall for the rates suggested by the Auto drivers who try to catch you before you reach the pre paid booth (Some try even after you reach the booth).
I am born and brought up in Chennai. One of the Auto drivers literally tricked me saying that the pre-paid auto charge to Mylapore (a place in Chennai) is Rs.60. He asked me to pay just 10 rupees more, as he was not a regular driver. I paid it that time. This time, I really wanted to go in the pre-paid auto and found that it was Rs.50 only.I realised that I was tricked.
They tell you that only a few autos are registered and so you will need to wait in a big queue and all. Don't believe in all that. Many autos are available and there is no big line to get your tokens.
My Advice:
If you are planning to travel by Auto from Chennai Central Station to anywhere in Chennai, please use this Pre-Paid Auto Service.
I know this is one dull review. But I found that this is a place to write and it should be really useful to people who are travelling to Chennai.
