How are these advertisements?
1.Surf Excel
Two rather small school kids, one girl and one boy are shown returning from school. The girl falls, accidentally, in a puddle of mud. The boy splashes the muddy water by beating on it with his hand, till he is tired, making the girl and himself completely dirty with the muddy water. A female voice from behind echoes ‘Surf Excel hai to dag acche hain’ ( If you have Surf Excel then the stains are good). The same slogan is repeated. It also appears written on the screen. I think this is a horrible way to demonstrate a detergent/soap and that too by Hindustan Lever of Lalitaji sophistication! In my opinion this is a very disgusting advertisement.
2.Kotak Securities
It irritates the person who orders tea to no end and it also irritates the viewer. The vendor goes on asking the customer about the kind of drink he wants: tea/coffee, sugar/without sugar, with milk/without milk, hot or cold and so on and on it goes. The customer is irritated to no end and turns away, throws things at the person taking his order. His questions never end. Whatever be the rationale, it is not an endearing narration of a product and that too to sell! Result, the gentleman throws things at the vendor who is shown with his wits lost. What a way to demonstrate security!
- Pepsi’s Cafe Chino
This ad. is well made delightful and visually interesting. It has two Bollywood stars-Karina Kapoor and Malaika Arora- trying to sell Pepsi’s café chino and they have done a very good job of it, entertaining and appealing. What I do not like about this ad. is the aggressiveness though with a smile. The man being wooed is hit on the chest with leg by one of the two, MA, and the other damsel is shown planting kisses on the cheek of the man who is then shown to gulp down Pepsi café chino. There is also another man playing something on the piano. Visually it is eye catching and delightful and the two stars have done a wonderful job. But the unnecessary excesses jar or I do not understand the pun.
It would seem that Pepsi ads. have chosen a rather aggressive presentation in its present generation of advertisements. Pepsi has a similar revulsion inducing advertisement for Diet Pepsi where a hunk forces diet down the throat of a nervous damsel.
- Mint
There are many ads. for mints all disgusting except for the one by Wrigley’s. The ones by Mentos and Chlormint are obnoxious.
- J.K. Lakshmi cement is another rather nonsensical ad to show how strong J. K. Lakshmi Cement is. A person carrying a bag of cement on a bicycle and also a rider collides with a truck and the truck is destroyed not its driver. This is supposed to demonstrate and exemplify the strength the J.K. Lakshmi cement.
It is difficult to understand and appreciate this show of an accident for the strength of the cement.
6 Kurkure.
Kurkure had some lovely ads. with the bubbly and chirpy Juhi Chawla. These were both visually as well as message wise commendable efforts. Juhi was simply excellent. However, the latest one with the theme of Family ‘masti’ Jackpot does not appeal. Juhi is simply wasted in whatever form she appears. The latest ‘kurure’ ad. has made the taste of kurkure what in Hindi is called ‘kirkira’.
7 ICICI Bank
I like the ICICI Bank ad. being aired currently. “Babuji ko draft bhej diya kya?....
………The expressions are fantastic and appealing. The punch line –‘hum hain
na’ for the Bank is very appropriate. The mutterings by the lady are so well done
and apt! I found the ad. endearing.
- Lux beauty soap of the stars.
This Kareena Kapoor enacted show is really marvelous. She not only looks
gorgeous but Lux ‘choclaty’ is also made to be inviting! Colours, the female, and
the soap all are so attractive and appealing that one would like to go for it.
- All Clear Shampoo
This is another nonsensical ad. featuring Bipasha Basu and John Abraham
showing the ‘qualities’ of a shampoo. There are any numbers of very appealing
attractive good shampoo advertisements. But this one is only to show the pair.
