I thought I would pass on a few tips to help u be a smarter shopper.
There are several computer manufacturers that have Web sites, such as Dell & Gateway, that allow u to check the prices of their computer systems, customize the specifications to fit ur needs, & then get a bottom line price. If u are in the market for a new computer, visit 1 of these sites & take advantage of this feature. For 1 thing, it will give u a ballpark idea of what the computer system of ur dreams is going to set u back & secondly, it will give u an idea of what is currently available.
Take a copy of the specifications for ur ideal computer that u obtained above with u when u visit the computer stores in ur area. This will give u a basis for comparison when u look at systems from other computer manufacturers. Don't be afraid to show the salesman ur ideal computer specifications & ask how their computer system compares to it.
Do not buy the 1st computer that u see, whether it's at 1 of the manufacturer's Web sites or in a local computer store. Gather all of the information that u can & compare prices & components. Buying a new computer is a major investment for most of us & u don't want to get stuck with something that u're not going to use.
Last but not least, take some time to learn the terminology. U want to be able to ask intelligent questions when u meet with a salesman & in order to do that, u need to learn the language. U also need to be able to understand what the salesman is talking about so u don't get talked into buying something that u don't need or leave out something that u do need.
Take a Course
Once u get ur new computer, take some time to learn how to use it. Computers can be very frustrating, especially if this is ur 1st one. There are literally hundreds of computer user groups & evening & weekend courses available at public schools, libraries, & colleges. Check the computer section of the yellow pages in ur phone book or the local newspaper for the 1 nearest u.
