Well , this is my first review after a long , long time and mouthshut has indeed changed for the good! Was blogging all this while , but the block on the blogs made me return back here...
Anyway , this Mahesh Bhatt-Anurag Basu movies in one word is - fabulous. Great stars , good stars , totally wonderful songs all add to the good points of this fabulous (again!) movie. The only thing which could have been corrected would be the initial stages of the movie which hams quite a bit , but it does pick up soon after , and leaves you with a feeling all good movies do!
Daya (Shiney Ahuja) is a gangster with an alcoholic girlfriend Simran (Kangana (i dont know her full name). Simran befriends Akash (Emraan Hashmi) and the story essentially revolves around these 3 characters.
(I am not going to give away anything more , so if you came here google-searching for the entirestory , then...click another link...wait , open that in anotherpage, read mine completely first! :) )
Performance wise , Kangana stands out. She dispels the accepted fact that newcomers cannot act well (in the interest of Nisha Kothari and the like) and gives a superb performance. Hats off to this new comer and good luck to her!
Shiny Ahuja , at face value cannot be described as good-looking, but he emotes so very naturally and wonderfully here...well done can hardly describe his performance.
And last , my once-upon-a-time fav , Emraan. Very bad acting compared to the other two. Yeah glasses enhancehis 'handsome'ness , but here , the jadoo is totally lost.
Emraan can simply not act well which is simply a pity (NOTE - I came to this conclusion after watching Aksar , Aashiq Banaya Aapne , Footpath and Zeher in one go , and if I am still surviving today , that is because of my incomparable and unbeatable strength). Perhaps , he should quit the acting (and kissing) business , he is not attractive anylonger (atleast to me!).
The songs are totally awe-inspiring. The best is Bheegi Bheegi and Ya Ali and listening to non- Himesh music is a thankful relief!
But like all movies , there are some flaws to this movie too. Like the opening scenes , the sudden intro to the central plot (this is what happens after watching too many slow-and-steady movies!) .
Another thing is this movie is like an art movie at times. Like Kangana's face is focussed for a full five seconds , her whisky bottle for a ten seconds and Daya's face for TWENTY seconds! Now , this could have been worked upon!
One thing which I could'nt understand was the caption - She loved him the day she betrayed him. Who are the him(s) here? Can anyone explain this to me please?
PS- If you are heartbroken of not getting the story , bombard me in the comments box!
