I bought a Ford Ikon 1.6 Zxi in June of 2005, to my knowledge the car is as good as any American car can be. American cars are like Indian cars, amazing to drive, loads of power, low on mileage, high on maintenance. And since I was aware of all the above mentioned I can’t complain about any of these. I must say ‘m very happy with my purchase. The car has ample power to get moving from a stand still even in the third gear or second with the Air conditioning on. Does have a few issues with being sound proof, outside sound may very well be blocked but the car tends to gain some interior rattling sounds. Oh and most importantly I must mention that Ford service is not as dependable as you might think. I have only had one service on my car yet but my experience hasn’t been all that great.
I received a thousand calls from the dealer I picked the car from along with the local dealers to remind me of the first upcoming service, which to my surprise is at 5000 KMS. Once they took the car for service and brought it back there’s no difference, I mean literally they did not even change the engine oil. I called the local dealer a few time, all I got was a whole lot of assurance with no reality base to them. And soon enough found out that the dealer has shut down. So I decided to send an email with my regrets to Ford India. To be honest the ford people were very kind to inform me that the dealer has shut down and will re-open in a months time at a different location and in the mean time another dealer in the city will take care of the problem I’m facing. Sure enough the other dealer gave me a call to resolve the issues, did I mention that the other dealer was shocked to find out about no oil change in my first car service, amazing huh, well the service was suppose to be scheduled by last week, I’m still waiting for the dealer to give me some time for it.
To be honest I can’t complain much a bad experience with a dealer does not lower the grades on a company. Overall I love my car, although a little expensive I feel now as now a days you can very well get a Octavia for about 14K/month. Which I suppose would obviously be a better choice any day.
