Some Hindi blockbusters - DDLJ, KKHH. qayamat se qayamat tak etc. These were really good .No doubt about that.But what about the ones that flopped? What was missing in them?There are some times when our public or aam janta acts very surprisingly or rather unreasonably.In my opinion , many of them do not accept reality or don't understand what the movie wants to convey.Here, I am to list some movies that I feel were excellent but god knows why they flopped.Some of them are my favorites:
1.Akele Hum Akele Tum- A beautifully made movie about a married couple and problems faced by them because of their ambitions. A very realistic movie with mind blowing performances by Manisha , Aamir and the kid. It had nothing which one can call bollywoodish.[may be that is why it flopped!]
2.Khamoshi-The musical- Again a very beautifully directed movie about the daughter of a dumb and deaf couple who has the skill and the aspiration to sing.The talent she has could not be felt and enjoyed by her own parents. Awesome performances by manisha koirala[her best till date] and of course nana patekar, seema biswas and not forgetting salman khan.The music of this movie is excellent with jatin-lalit and kavita krishnamurthy at their bests.Aaj mein upar and Yeh dil sun raha hai are worth listening.
3.Andaz Apna Apna- A rib-tickling comedy and a masterpiece by rajkumar santoshi.I feel sorry for those who have not seen it yet.It promises 3 hrs. of complete entertainment.I just don't get any reason for this movie to flop.Who on earth did not like it?
4.Pukar- An action packed movie with a strong storyline and great performances.A story about a sincere army major accused of being disloyal .Madhuri Dixit is wonderful in her role with some grey shades.Anil Kapoor once again proves himself to be a class apart.The music was also great[especially kay sara sara].I guess it flopped because of KNPH and the hritik mania.
5.Dushman- The best by Tanuja Chandra as well as Kajol.The story of a serial killer who rapes and then kills girls. He murders Kajol's twin sister and she takes revenge.Sanjay Dutt[who is blind] gives her the encouragement and training to fight her enemy.Kajol proves to be a versatile actress in this movie.Melodious music especially pyar ko ho jaane do.
6.Aankhein[2002]- The audience complained that movies had nothing new to offer. This movie did have something different. A storyline one could never even imagine. It had a wonderful performance by Sushmita Sen. Now, why did this one not become a super hit? It deserved to be one.
7.Dil Se- I find it one of bests of Mani Ratnam. An obsessed lover and a terrorist obsessed about her mission. A different concept. Awesome performances, excellent music and mind blowing cinematography.
8.Lajja- A movie that showed the actual state of women in India. A story of four women and their fight for justice. Yes, it had unnecessary item numbers. But the cast performances were brilliant.
9.The Legend of Bhagat Singh -This movie won awards but it was actually a flop.It had just 34% collections in its first week .May be because it released with Devdas .I don't need to say anything about the story line but hats off to Rajkumar Santoshi , ajay devgan and sushant Singh.
10.Lamhe – A different concept which people refused to accept. The emotions of all the characters was shown superbly. Wonderful performances by Anil Kapoor and Sridevi . A Yash Chopra classic.
I would also like to mention that Lamhe, Tamanna , 1942-a love story, raakh, godmother, and sangharsh did not achieve what they deserved.
