Yesterday I was watching Channel V very late night and watched some of Sting's songs which inspired me to write a review on this very versatile and popular singer.
So now straight to the list(Not in any particular order)
- Its Probably Me from the album Ten Summoner’s Tales: This song has a raw feel to it…with brilliant Lyrics. The lyrics go like this…
If the night turned cold and the stars looked down
And you hug yourself on the cold, cold ground
You wake the morning in a stranger's coat
No one would you see
You ask yourself, who'd watch for me
My only friend, who could it be
It's hard to say it
I hate to say it, but it's probably me…
This song is about real friendship and love and whenever a friend is in need, a real friend never thinks twice and would come to help.
- If I ever lose my faith in you from the album Ten Summoner’s Tales: This song was the first song of Sting which I ever listened to, long time back when I was in School and then fell in love with Sting. This song accentuates the rustic voice of Sting. The lyrics go like this…
You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
You could say I lost my belief in the holy church
You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this and worse, but
If I ever lose my faith in you
There'd be nothing left for me to do…
This song is about faith and togetherness in any relationship that makes it strong and survives any pains or sorrows. It also talks about emptiness of Politicians and Military powers as well.
Desert Rose from the album Brand New Day: This song has been the most popular song of Sting in the recent times, and I am sure most of you must have heard this song. It has a French-Albanian singer Cheb Mami and has a very typical Arabic feel to it which made the rhythm quite popular. But sometimes in the song, one feels that Cheb Mami’s vocals have overshadowed Sting’s.
All for Love from Bryan Adams’ Single Song Album: This song has been sung three quite popular singers of all time-Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting. This song was also part of the Movie Soundtrack: The Three Musketeers. This song is very serene with awesome lyrics and goes well with the motto of the Movie “All for One and One for All”. The lyrics go like this…
Let's make it all for one and all for love.
Let the one you hold be the one you want,
The one you need,
'Cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
When there's someone that should know
Then just let your feelings show
And make it all for one and all for love.
- Every Breath you Take from the album Every Breath you take (Police): This song was sung by Sting when he was the part of a Group called “POLICE”…And this song was their most popular song and has been remixed by Puff Daddy as well. The lyrics go like this…
Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bound you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you…
Sting takes in an average of$2000 per day in royalties for the 20 year old song and the song is officially the most requested radio song of all time.
