This charming beauty’s twinkling eyes and the cutest smile is all that’s required to calm the minds of many tensing souls. But this lucky girl has much more than eyes and smiles in her possession, she’s the owner of one of the most unique vocal blessing any one could dream for. Friends I am talking about none other than Bengali pop princess, Shreya Goshal.
Born and brought up in Rajasthan, Shreya is now settled in Mumbai giving complete focus on her musical career. Just as her name means, Shreya is all eminent and one of the happiest youngsters in India. Shreya always showed interest to music at a very young age and considers it to the most important asset in her life. Her Guru was none other than her mother and humbly credits that all she has is what her mother has passed over to her.
Shreya belongs to a highly academic family. Her father is a nuclear scientist in BARC and mother is a post graduate in literature. She has a younger brother as well. Shreya’s fortunate moments started when she took part in TVS Sa Re Ga Ma, a musical talent show aired on Zee TV. Being a confident and natural contestant and a winner of several episodes, Shreya was given chance to participate in the 75th episode of Sa Re Ga Ma, which she won. Later on she also won the mega grand finals which took place in 1996 when she was only 12.
Meanwhile Sanjay Leela Bansali was lucky enough to watch one of the episodes of the program and was very impressed with her performance. Sanjay never forgot the Bengali hummingbird after one and a half years when he was working for Devdas. He knew that she was the right girl to sing for Paro, a character played by Aishwarya Rai in the movie. That’s how Devdas launched Shreya as the debut play back singer in Bollywood.
Shreya sang ‘Bairi Pia’ and ‘Dola Re Dola’ in the same movie. It was not an amazing fact when her voice was accepted all over India. Her dedicated work helped her win 8 awards in a single year including the ‘National Award’. Currently she’s pursuing her Final Year B.A. degree. She enjoys Symphony and instrumental in western music and she adores ABBA group, but Indian music remains her soul. Shreya has the capability to suit her voice for any mood and feel. She was even well appreciated for her romantic number of ‘Jadu Hai Nasha Hai’ for Bipasha Basu in Jism which she considers the best song she sang. Presently she works for Tamil, Telungu, Kannada, Bengali and Marathi besides Hindi singing both sad and peppy songs. Lately she has sung for movies like Krrish, Ankahee, Aryan etc. Now she’s looking for the yet to release movie Vivaah were she will again prove her wonderful talent.
Shreya’s ever glittering future will only ladder her to great heights where the depths will only make her bolder rather than shudder. Let’s wish her all the best for her years to come……
