Were More Popular Than Jesus Christ Right Now.
With so many terrorists and so much of religious discrimination around, you would think a fundamentalist made this statement.
John Lennon - probably the most famous of The Beatles(Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison), and the chief lyricist of the group - made this remark at a talk show. It led to his defamation, and finally assassination by Mark Chapman, a Christian fanatic.
Incredulous though the statement may seem, it practically was not too far from the truth.
Undeniably, The Beatles were and still are the most famous of pop musicians. The Beatles made their debut in 1963 and stopped performing live in 1969. In this short span they revolutionarized pop music dynamically. Their techniques inspired superstars like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Even in India, stalwarts of Hindi film music like Rahul Dev Burman and O. P. Nayyar adopted their composition styles.
The prospect of selecting 5 Best Songs among the hits of The Beatles creates a guilty conscience. The word best is a degree of comparison, and such a phenomenon does not exist with The Beatles at all.
The least I can do is present a collection of my favourite Beatles' songs. It may not do justice to the other fans, but still.
- From Me To You
(*If there's anything that you want, if there's anything I could do,
Just call on me, and I'll send it along, with love from me to you.
I got all the love to hold you, and keep you by my side,
I got lips that long to kiss you, and keep you satisfied!)
This was one of the first singles performed live by The Beatles and the album set the cash registers ringing. It remained a hit for ten years in a row and the records are still in production.
George Harrison and Paul McCartney sang it, and the orchestra was handled by one time Beatle, Stuart Sutcliffe.
- Can't Buy Me Love
(*Can't buy me love, love.I'll give you a diamond ring my friend, if it makes you feel alright,
I'll get you anything my friend, if it makes you feel alright,
But I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love)
This was a special St.Valentine's day presentation at a party at the Buckingham Palace. Excellent guitar work by Ringo Starr and drums by George Harrison.
- Help!
(*Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody, help!
You know I need someone, help!*)
This song was the working title of the film Eight Arms To Hold You, starring John Lennon and shot in the Bahamas. It's one of those whose beauty lies in the https://lyrics.
- I Wanna Hold Your hand
(*Oh yeah I'll tell you somethin', I think you'll understand,
When I say that somethin, I wanna hold your hand.
And when I touch you I'll feel happy, inside
It's such a feeling that my love, I can have!*)
One of the best romantic numbers The Beatles ever came up with.(The tune bears an uncanny resemblance with that of Humko Hai Tumse Pyar from the film Jaanwar sung by Mohd. Rafi and Asha Bhosle, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.)
- A Hard Day's Night
(*It's been a hard days night, and I've been workin' like a dog.
It's been a hard days night, and I should be sleepin' like a log.
But when I get home to you, I find the things that you do,
Will make me feel all right*)
Just listen to the full song and you'll marvel at the maturity of the https://lyrics.(The Beatles were only teenagers then!)
The description of every hit delivered by The Beatles would fill several books. Anyone who feels interested may want to listen to the 20 Greatest Hits Of The Beatles.
The Beatles were, doubtlessly, the turning point in the world of music. They transformed rigid vocal classical music to foot taping rock songs, exactly like Elvis Presley did in the US and R. D. Burman in India.(Luckily none of them are alive to see what is the definition of music today!)
To this day, the mere mention of The Beatles sends a shiver of pleasure through the hearts of music lovers.
