What this review covers:

Here are some simple vegetarian restuarants in the city of Bangalore, if you are on a shoestring budget, but if you want to spend a little more; then there is more choice.

What this review does not cover or attempt to cover:

Like any place, if money is not a restriction, there are umpteen choices.

Vegetarian food - South Indian Top 5+5 Restaurants **Bangalore only

Been enjoying these pure vegetarian restuarants - Each time I move away from Bangalore, I know I miss them! This is a choice based on some personal experiences, tastes, perception vary; but this is the quintessential original Bangalore guide considering old style Bangalore.

For an example; I have not included Kamat Yatri Nivas in central Bangalore, also known as the Majestic circle area(well known joke Kamat sez it all - "Khaa"+ "Mat" - no brainer!)

Halli Mane, Malleswaram 4th cross area

  • Reasonable rates

  • Many select items

  • Original Karnataka items

  • Range

Upahara Darshini, NR Colony

Select items eg upma is loaded with ghee or some bad fat like vansapati

-Idli Smells great although it has artifical stuff

*Brahmins Hotel, Shankarpuram

*-Still some brahmanas around!

-Last brahmin stop in town/coffee

Janatha, Malleswaram

old style Karnataka Masala dosa, as is, followed by Chikmagalur coffee in steel cups

Dwaraka Bhawan, Basavangudi(near BMS Colleges and Bull Temple)

Set Dosa

Ramana's(expensive), City area

Nice selection

Expensive for what it is, could be 150 Rupees for two or around, no more

*Vidyarthi Bhavan, Gandhi Bazaar, Basavangudi

*Most folks that have been going there for 40 years or so, think that Masala dosa is the only specilaity. Try anything there!

-Masala dosa

-Vada

-Coffee

-Top Billing: Their coconut chutney is still a masterpeice

Kadambam

This is last because only some items are good, curd rice for eg. for a south indian shd not be Rs 20/-

Other small eat-outs

There are many smaller darshinis in outer lying areas, they are good at select items e.g bisi bele bath(call this bbb)

If you have had some experiences with good eats NOT on this list, please post comments/reviews!
