My father bought a second hand Fiat Premiere Deluxe BE model in 1993. It was then almost 2 years old, well-maintained by its previous owner. Overall, it is a nice car and if well-maintained it looks elegant and beautiful.
At the time of purchase, it already had the mileage of 48000 kms. For people seating at the rear, it is very airy, with 1/4 of window glasses cutting through the wind efficiently to pour as much wind into the cabin as possible. But for the passengers sitting at the front, unlike older Fiat models, there are no provisions as such besides, the engine makes the front bootspace and racks very hot.
While driving, one needs to put in lots of efforts for changing the gear. Often, it makes too much noise if the clutch is not completely pressed. Clutch often gives problems. Driver's view is superb with the front bonnet completely visible unlike modern cars. Handling is reasonably good when compared to other cars of that time except M800. Suspension is quite good. Its very sturdy and we even drove it on village "no-roads" with no problems. Wheels are big and pass through rough roads just like a jeep. Load as much as possible, it won't say no unlike M800 which calls for immediate replacement of ball-bearings! Once you become used to driving it, you will love it.
We also have a M800, but it has not been able to snatch away our liking for the Elegant Lady. Padmini is our beloved car. We have fixed an alternator that charges the battery quickly thus eliminating ignition problem. Although we are in the process of buying Alto Lx, we will never sell our Fiat, but M800.
