Fat Kong.
Some places are wonderful, some places remind you of your school days, some
places remind you of excellent ambience, some places remind you of sweet
memories, and some places remind you of good meals. It's interesting how, even
after trying to make chinese at home several thousand times, you just end with
with a particular taste akin to yours, and that's how people term it as your
style, but really, I have always wondered, why can't I ever come up with a
taste that's a very restaurant flavour, what is it that they put, that it
doesn't make my fried rice taste just like theirs?
Not that I am bad at cooking, but I do remember, once in sheer
excitement, I had made Chinese noodles for a few cousins were to come over, and
everything was just perfect, and that's when I needed soya sauce to add zing to
my oriental dish, I picked up the label-less vanilla essence, and poured it
excitedly over the "wonderful noodles", only that after I tasted it,
I realised, the whole thing was just kaput!
Shux, it's a pity, but my cousins always recall that day and have a hearty
laugh at my expense, as I scowl, they guffaw. But anyways, I found a solution!
Whenever I need to eat Chinese, I head to Fat Kong, a wonderful Chinese place,
bang opposite Dynasty, and lip smacking food!
Let's start with the Food first,
We ordered our appetiser, which was Chicken Chilly Hakka Lollypop, I was
wondering if they were supposed to serve us noodles with it, but my doubts were
cleared by the waiter, who said, the lollypop would only be dipped in gravy,
instead of the usual dry ones. Well, and we ordered a plate, costs us around
Rs.115. But, YES, it was absolutely worth it, we asked for medium spicy, and it
was brilliant. The taste still lingers in my mouth, but since it's chicken, I
had to use dental floss for over 15 min to get the damn things out:D
Oh, then our hawk eyes ventured to the rice section, it was Chicken Schezwan
rice, for Rs. 90 and we usually order gravy with it, so for gravy it was the
chilly chicken gravy, which came for around Rs.90- Rs.100.
The Chicken schezwan rice, was well cooked a little raw, wonderful vegetables,
the aroma of the fried rice is so captivating, that you can't wipe that smile
on your face when the lad is serving you. And my friends, just love to gorge on
it. It's as they say, Chinese Heaven! The wonderful spicy chicken gravy, comes
in an amazing generous portion, which easily serves 2 hungry individuals. And
of course for drinks, we usually down it with coke, everytime I order one, I
feel real guilty, because I am not allowed to have it at home, I always end up
recieving the pesticide talk, and so before I down a coke, a say a silent
prayer that this thing doesn't harm me:D
I am so sorry that I have never eaten anything veg here, coz the non-veg is
sooo goood, and I never bring my veggie friends here, coz I'll never be able to
eat Non-veg then:D But I have been told, by one of my trusted foodie
vegetarian friends that Fat Kong is a wonderful chinese place to eat, so there
you are!

Now let's hop on to the Ambience:
Hmm, it's an open air restaurant, so your lunch and dinner will be under the
shady trees, with mellow-yellow lighting in the evenings, they have an elevated
platform thing, and has a seating area for 4-5 tables, and downstairs,
you have a seating of around 10 tables, quite decent I must say, around
lunch, you'll find it quite packed, but you are sure to get a seating the
moment you arrive. The
Chairs are made of plastic, I think they all are Neelkamal Chairs and are red,
there are a few chinese dragon paintings put up on the walls of the platform.
They have uniformed waiters, and at night, the place is amazingly packed, and
weekends, you have to wait grudgingly, as the aromas make your stomach boil, as
you wait to be seated! The ambience is alright, the place does not bark music,
because it relys on it's food to do all the talking! I have had such amazing
meals here, including some Thai food, that is par excellence, that the ambience
is soothing, but not as classy as the Red Box I reviewed earlier.

And now comes the final cut, the people!
The waiters have a look that says, "Your wish is my command" I mean,
sometimes I would wonder if they knew the food right, so when I asked him about
the Thai prawn curry, he was well versed with the menu, and I was instantly
delighted, no problems there. Appearances are decieving, another lesson there.
The waiters are amazing, and the service is quick, give or take 10 minutes,
your food appears in front of you with grace and alacrity.

All in all, I find this place really wonderful, one of the few chinese places I
frequent, and has kept me, my family and my friends satisfied for over the
years. I always end up, with a full stomach, and a promise to myself to visit
the gym regularly. But the satisfaction of a good meal, aah the feeling, is
just priceless!
