The fifth installment promises that Dom and his gang will do their job one LAST time and then retire. Yeah right...........how many times have we heard that, huh? After all, there's a reason as to why this is the fifth part in the highly successful 'Fast & Furious' series.
Dominic Toretto(Vin Diesel) is freed while being transported to prison by his sister, Mia Toretto(Jordana Brewster) and his friend Brian O' Conner(Paul Walker). After 4 movies, it should be pretty clear to everyone by now that Mia and Brian are a couple and by no means did they 'break out' Dom/Dominic legally. Mia and Brian escape to Rio de Janeiro, while Dom decides to take his own path to Brazil. Not wanting to keep still, the duo join their friends to steal a few cars. A heavy action sequence takes place and as is expected, Dom arrives at the scene to save the day. Mia, Brian and Domrealise that something is amiss as the group is only truly interested in stealing one particular car- a Ford GT40. Soon enough, Dom discovers the mystery hidden inside this vehicle(apparently, the scriptwriters decided to make him the 'smart one'.). After fishing out the 'special item' stored inside the car, Dom decides to take on Hernan Reyes(Joaquim de Almeida), the local hotshot. From this point in the movie, the real action begins.................... Dom plans to recruit a whole 'new' crew to help him commit his foul play- Han Seoul-Oh from 'Tokyo Drift' (Sung Kang), Roman Pearce from '2 Fast 2 Furious' (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker from '2 Fast 2 Furious (Ludacris), Gisele Harabo from 'Fast and Furious' (Gal Gadot), Tego Leo from 'Fast and Furious' ( Tego Calderon) and Rico Santos also from 'Fast and Furious' (Don Omar). Only their job isn't so easy this time around with two dedicated detectives hot on their trail, Luke Hobbs(Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) and Elena Neves(Elsa Pataky). The following events include action, lots of action and even more action.
The highlight of the movie is definitely the breathtaking beauty of Brazil and the well choreographed action scenes.Vin Diesel does what he does best, simply being himself. Paul Walkermesmerizes instantaneously with his ocean blue eyes, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Tego and Rico add to comic situations, which does enable some laughter. The development of romance between Han and Gisele is cute, but the one between Dom and Elena is slow and definitely creates an eyesore. Dwayne 'The Rock'is just too angry in this film and keeps spitting over and grunting almost all of his lines. Jordana Brewsterlooks pretty, but her body gives way that she hasn't eaten for months during the shooting, which is weird 'cause in the movie she gets pregnant with Brian's child. Also, she keeps running and leaping around various locales in and about the city while her character's got a baby in the belly. Definitely, neither the plot nor the action scenes are realistical, so its better to watch this film with an open mind.
Final grade- A-, don't do any of this at home unless you're a professional stuntman.
