*All the people who are in early thirties or more and witness to the evolution of Indian television serials. There was a time when as kids we had that blank door darshan screen through the the day and we waited till 6.pm for disgusting Door Darshan logo to get of the screen. Satellite TV came on the scene in early 90's first there was no Hindi channel. but all the English speaking Indians were glued to Santa Barbra and Bold and Beautiful( this one is still around can u beat it?) Zee Tv was the first to hit the screen and guys when u look back do you remember the serials that we were fed on? Tara, Dillagi, Saap Seedi? Tara was a serial which today almost 15 years latter will still be considered a Bold serial with an A certificate .
There was this female protagonist called Tara and her bunch of friends Tara has a affair with a elderly married man and her friend Sheena is a drunkard and changes boy friends like clothes. Dillagi was another disgusting serial with Neena gupta Madam playing the lead role now this was a ashleel (Hindi) serial where they had double entendre and can u believe it ? this serial had a kiss????????? a smooch?????????, seceral more such titilating serials like Banegi Apni baat and blah blah crap But we had no choice then people were ready to accept anything new from the pain in the neck called Door Darshan.
Most of you will recall that Star Plus was a English language channel and when the ceo I don't remember his name decided to convert it into a Hindi channel most of the people from Malabar hill, cuff parade were disgusted how could he turn Star plus into a bhaiya channel??? but its a history that Star Plus broke all the records and Knocked out Zee tv.
There were no Hindi news channels then only bbc and cnn had the news monopoly. among other channels there was cartoon Network which was purely English channel catering to English speaking children today Cartoon network is full of Hindi dubbed cartoons. take over of Hindi is understandable as I believe thats where the money lies.
MTV was a true MTV channel do you remember those VJ danny McGill, Sophia, Nonie and Kamal Siddhu? but soon MTV and Channel V became completely indianised with Bollywood being top on agenda. it was in late 90's the Ekta Kapoor came with her success formula but everyone knows about it so there is nothing to talk of it. I am basically refereeing to the start of Satellite Tv in India and changes that it has gone thru over the years there are several more things which I have in mind but I may have missed out now your comments can remind me a few things *
