I really want to share my story of a hair transplant in Delhi with others who are suffering from hair loss. I do not want people to be misguided by fake ads and therefore please read this carefully if your life and safety is not important to you. A year ago, I decided to have a hair transplant to correct my receding hairline. For me safety is very important and I was keen to meet the doctor who will perform my procedure. I decided to go to Eugenix Hair Sciences in Gurgaon first. Their staff was very professional and the consultations was also very good. I was told that their owners are Dr Arika Bansal and Dr Pradeep Sethi who are amongst the best hair transplant surgeons in the world. Dr Arika Bansal also met me and she had done thousands of procedures. I was also told that they had invented their own technique called DHT: Direct Hair Transplant. I was also shown a case of some actor on whom they had done a hair transplant of 30, 000 hairs! They said most of the hair were taken out of his beard.
I was very impressed and decided to book my procedure with them.
Later that night, I did more research on Eugenix. I could not find any information on the ‘revolutionary’ DHT technique, except on the Eugenix website. There was nothing about the doctors either. That was strange.
The other clinic that I was looking for was DHI. DHI stands for Direct Hair Implantation. This is a Greek company which has been in India for 10 years. I booked an appointment at the DHI Clinic in Safdarjung Enclave, Delhi. My consultation was done by a doctor. That was a big difference versus Eugenix where I met a salesman. After conducting an alopecia test they told me that I needed a 4, 000 hair procedure and that I had enough hair in my donor area to be able to do the surgery.
Having just come from Eugenix where I had heard about the DHT technique, I was sceptical and asked the doctor how DHI was different from DHT. The DHI doctor chose not to speak much about Eugenix’s DHT but told me that DHI is a technique where they use a patented tool to implant the hair directly in the skin(using a patented tool called DHI implanter) instead of first making holes and then pushing hair grafts into them with forceps(as is done by everybody else). This leads to more density, higher graft survival rate and complete control over direction, angle and density thus giving natural results. The entire procedure would also be done by a doctor, unlike at Eugenix, where nurses would do the procedure under the ‘guidance’ of a doctor. I was pretty convinced, but still decided to check up more on DHI before booking the procedure and spent a few hours researching about DHI when I got home.
To my surprise I came to know that DHI is one of the largest chain of hair transplant clinics in the world and were the people who created the FUE technique. The company later went on to create the DHI technique and patented that and is now present in more than 40 countries across the world.
The more I read about DHI, the more I saw that Eugenix had copied their entire positioning from DHI. No wonder they called their technique DHT. In fact Eugenix in their DHT technique claimed that they also used implanters to implant the hair into holes they had created from before. Having now understood how an implanter works and its benefits, I realized that there was no sense to use an implanter when the surgeon had already created holes in the scalp. Eugenix on deeper probing admitted that they get nurses to perform the procedures. The so called Dr Arika and Pradeep Sethi are mere mouth pieces of Eugenix and only in last 5-6 years, they started claiming expertise in hair transplant. Before that they were no bodies. Their claim of extracting 30000 hair from beard was such a fraud! Beard has only single hair follicles and I learnt that maximum 1000 hair follicles can be extracted from there! How can they lie so much? Can doctors lie so much to make money?
I booked my procedure at DHI and got my hair transplant done at their Gurgaon clinic in February 2020. The entire procedure was done by a medical director who had personally performed more than 500 procedures and had been trained by their London Academy.
It has been 6 months since I got my procedure done and I have great results already. I am very thankful that I did not fall into the trap of Eugenix and would recommend everyone to have consultations at multiple clinics before choosing where to get a hair transplant done.
