Recommended droom.in to a friend highly as they are the sponsors for Bigg Boss 2018 and hence it brought them credibility as compared to many other used car dealers. But gosh how wrong was I. This company markets and sells itself based on lies and miscommunication via both call center and website FAQ section. Primary reason for this post is to educate buyers who want to consider droom.in against the mental agony they might be subjected to.
Readers will be startled with what I am going to write for the better and can stay away from the headache by not falling prey to them. I have all the necessary proof in terms of all screenshots, whatsapp chats with their executives and all call recordings. Consumer Forum notice is on its way as I did inform today to its official twitter handle letsdroom and its founder Sandeep Aggarwal.
Here is a run down of how droom fools prospective buyers of a car:
Firstly, after going through their website I did make a best offer for the Honda Amaze at 3.9 lakhs which was lower than their listed price
Within a day received SMS from droom.in stating the offer has been accepted by the seller
After contemplating on this though for about 2 days afterwards, I did go ahead and made the token payment of around 10k yesterday from my friend's account using the coupon code shared by them to block the car after many calls and Whatsapp chats with their customer care executive Akash who assured us that seller has agreed to sell it to us at 3.9 lakhs
I was always told there is 100% refund possible of this token amount if for any reason there is change of mind and hence I did not hesitate(this fact seems to be true but we are yet to cancel this deal online and experience this commitment from them).
As per the terms mentioned by them, droom collects only the token amount and remaining amount has to be settled with the seller directly.
I was told by Akash that after I pay the token amount I can get the seller's contact details but to my horror instead of providing the seller details, after the token amount was paid we are asked to verify first mail ID, second Aadhar number and third PAN number.
Hence I was shocked as I did not understand the logic of withholding the seller details and asking Aadhar and PAN after making the token amount payment that too when remaining amount has to go the seller directly.
My multiple discussions later yesterday with their call center executive Prashant failed to justify this reason and they did not provide the contact details of the seller even after making the token amount payment.
And shockingly nowhere on their website including FAQ have they mentioned this nor was it ever told to me by Akash before payment(sample screenshot attached).
On the contrary I was told after making the token payment, seller details will be sent to me by Akash via Whatsapp without a word about mandatory KYC to reveal seller details even after payment was made.
Now the horror did not end here as it was just the beginning.
Second Main ISSUE:
As droom refused to provide seller details, with the help of Google when we reached the seller somehow on our own just by reading the name of the seller on their website, to our UTTER HORROR seller stated us that the car was sold 20 days ago on Oct 23, 2018 and he even showed us the sale receipt which is attached here.
Seller also stated that he has not accepted 3.9 lakhs offer as car was already sold and he was equally shocked to know that droom has accepted it without checking with the seller.
In fact on the day of my payment, before I did pay, Akash(customer care executive who mislead me) even sent me car dashboard pic as per my request and stated dealer shared it with him. This turned out to be a fake story which I realized after visiting the seller as car was not even available in the first place
THIRDLY when I tried to reason out both the issues, KYC as well as token amount for non existent car, their customer care team was giving reasons beyond what is acceptable(examples: what if Facebook tomorrow asks for PAN Card) and their resolution to these issues was to ask me to cancel the order as I would get the full refund.
Though I would get refund upon cancellation what about the misleading false commitments and hiding of crucial facts which have caused unnecessary mental inconvenience to me and my friend.
Lastly I strongly perceive either or both of the following reasons why droom.in exhibited this deceiving behaviour to acquire and then retain me.
Customer care executives are so desperate to achieve their targets that they have developed this strategy of misleading deliberately which has gone unchecked by the company for reasons best known to droom.in
Droom.in has carefully hatched this plan of misleading initially to acquire a customer and later even if the car chosen and token paid for is not available, still sell it with the hope of later convincing the customer to look for alternate options
In both of the above cases, droom.in should be held accuontable for cultivating bad practices. Their customer care team as well management needs serious training in honesty and professionalism.
