When one of my friends gifted me this book I reluctantly taken it from him and put into the bookself without reading a single page. I thought, this would be another family story of Saas-Bahu and money would have important role.
For me, Sudha Murthy at that time was better known as Narayan Murthy's wife and I was not aware of her writing skills. Then I came across the article in SAVVY about Murthys' for each other. There Sudha described how she squeezed through the usual complex life and decided to marry Narayan Murthy against all odds. She shown her aurthority over writing and left an indelible impression. This also reminded me the book Dollar Bahu in my bookself which I kept aside as untouchable.
I took that book out from the bookself and started reading the novel. The way stroy starts is a big bore and may force one to leave the book. As I was expecting something different from her, I went to an extra length and read about 15-20 pages. This is where the story starts and forcing you in reverse way. You just can't leave the novel at that stage until finish.
Not smartly written, but the content she has provided is ultimate. As the story lurks around the fond of Dollar and dreams assosiated with it, this gives lot of thought to the current generation who spoile their life in search of Dollar and leave their own native place for US. This clearly shows how money makes one blind and focussed to a mundane goal which thrashed everything comes in that way. What one gains from the greed of Dollar and going US? This book answers this in a very lucid way.
I read the Hindi version translated from original Kannada, so the sentences seem to lose touch of language which we usually find in original books. Still, I would recommend every Dollar aspiring fellow to go by this once and take the decision then.
Nice Reading.
