If you ever are bored with the maddening crowds of Juhu Beach or with the noise pollution at Marine Drive, or with the commercially exploited beaches of Goa, just visit Diveagar and I am sure you will be mesmerized. That's what happened to 5 of us when we went to Diveagar.
Just imagine a beach where the next person is 2 km away from you, and all you have with you are white sands and clear waters and the scenic hills on one side of the beach with beautiful'Suru' trees lined up all along the beachside!
Yes, all this is not an exaggeration but a reality, which I cannot sum it up in words. You will literally see your feet through the chilly waters, and enjoy the suntan just relaxing on the white sands. We had lots of fun too, what with driving along the beach at 80km/hr, playing cricket getting all soaked up in the calm n serene waves and jiving to some music on the sands!
Harihareshwar.
This place is just 40 kms away from Diveagar, but kudos to Mother Nature, you will find a completely different seaside here. There is a lovely Shivji Mandir right next to the beach(due to which it gets this name), but here their are dangerous cliffs and rocks surrounding the place. You will appreciate the beauty of nature when you see different lovely rock formations and figures and that's when you will remember about the concept of Erosion leant in our school time.
We went right on top of the hill on a trek not recommended for the weak hearted.and the view from top was breath taking! Imagine the state of exhilaration we were in when we saw the Arabian Sea surrounding us in a 270 Degree panoramic view from height of at least a 30-storied building and the beautiful sunset on the horizon!
How to reach there:
Diveagar is around 160 kms from Pune and it takes around 4 and half hours to reach there by car.
The route is as follows:
Pune - Chandni Chowk - Paud - Mulshi - Tamhini Ghat - Nizampur - Maangaon( on NH-17 Goa highway) - Mhasala - Diveagar.
Food and Accommodation:
Their are decent Hotels in the village like the MTDC's Exotica, Dhanraj & Prathamesh Resorts, in which we were staying. They are priced at aroung 1000 to 1500/- for a room per day. You have cheaper rooms available to at around 500 to 800/-, which are actually built by the villagers in their compounds.
Please do not expect Paneer butter masala or Idli sambar here, cause most of the villagers serve good authentic Maharastrian Thali with some mouth tickling delicacies like Solkadhi, Fish fry and typical Konkani Curry.
