Digit - An average magazine.

The Magazine,

The Magazine 'Digit'published by Jasubhai Digital Mediapriced at Rs 100/-is just an average magazine. Nothing great about it and nothing very bad about it .The 2 free CD's (titled Playware and Mindware) that is given free with it and the reviews of various software and hardware are some of the very few plus points the magazine can boast of.

The various bits of news from the computing world given are informative: but too few in number. Advancements in technologies are highlighted quite well. Game reviews are not satisfactory. Every now and then they come out with excellent articles but they follow it up with stories of what their staff is interested in and what they were upto during the last month.

The magazine publishes tips and tricks on various software such as Image editing, Video editing etc. All the tips provided can be found within the help section of the software itself.Any person familiar with a computer needs no tips of this sort. Hence I see no point in it.

One can also find a section titled ''30 Minutes Expert'' - This section tells you how to do things such as converting audio cassettes into Mp3's, How to sort Mp3's, How to connect two monitors to a computer and other such foolish topics. Lots of advertisements (an average of 2 pages for every 5 pages of the magazine). As long as the ads are computer and technology related they are bearable. They have started featuring models on the outer cover lately. Makes no sense for a PC Magazine. Hence the magazine is a mixture of excellent and foolish articles.

Moving on to their CD's,

You can find several useful freeware; shareware, adware and time limited demos. Routinely used software such as winamp, windows media player, opera, Netscape, acrobat reader, WinZip, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Flashget etc and their latest updated versions also can be easily obtained from these CD's. Virus updates for Norton Antivirus, McAfee, etc. too can be found. Lately they have started featuring free, efficient antivirus software and firewalls

Handy system tools are also found on the CD. Video editing software, updates and patches for Office, etc. are all a part of the CD. Game demos too can be found on the playware CD. Updates and patches for games are also given as and when released. Good desktop themes, screensavers, wallpapers, movie previews etc. are a regular feature of the Playware CD.

The CD's are really good.

Overall it is an OKmagazine. The CD makes up for the magazine. A bit high on the price. For those of you who can afford to spend a lot of cash I don't think it could hurt to buy the magazine if you are a regular PC user.
