Dhoom 2 is a winner in terms of the box office. But in terms of quality, it is a good action thriller from Bollywood standards. But if one were to look at international benchmarks, it looks as what one reviewer classified as a “low budget Van Damme thriller”.
Dhoom 2 is another episode of the pugnacious Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and the charming (??) Ali (Uday Chopra). Suneheri (Aishwarya Rai), ACP Shonali Bose and her twin (Bipasha Basu) and of course, Mr. A (Hritik Roshan) join the party this time. But the party is pretty inconsistent, what with the dips the screenplay takes time too often.
Dhoom 2 works only because of its star cast, locales and star cast in general and of course a certain Mr Krrish Roshan who is fabulous. While Abhishek Bachchan is sincere, the ladies sexy hot, Uday Chopra earnest, it is Hritik Roshan with his super charm who turns the faucet on. His performance may not give him the best actor award, but it has definitely won him over to the audience.
Dhoom 2 tries hard to be a spectacle bound ride and it does succeed at times. Wish it had a better storyline.
And yes – I DID NOT MIND THE HRITIK-ASH SMOOCH. If for nothing else, watch the movie for this and go home flaming red.
