I wonder how much 'Indra Kumar' the director of Dhamaal has paid to 'Taran Adarsh' to not to mention in his review at Indiafm.com that 'Dhamaal' is a scene to scene carbon copy of 2001's english movie 'RAT RACE' directed by Jerry Zucker, Rat Race was also loosely inspired by 1963's most famous film 'Its a mad mad mad world'.
I am really surprised to see that a person like 'Taran Adarsh' who never missed a single chance to mention boldly in his film reviews if a single sequence of a bollywood film resembles with a hollywood/foreign flick, or if even any bollywood movie very loosely and very remotely inspired from an English film, Taran always mentioned the slightest resemblance very hugely in all his film reviews. But this is really shocking to know that 'Dhamaal' that is a ditto copy of Rat Race (as also 'Rat Race' is not an ancient movie but is a very well known/popular and compartively new film that was just released in 2001 and comprised of a great cast including famour Mr.Bean) but Taran never ever mentioned in all of his Dhamaal's review anywhere this fact. Maybe he is befriends with Indra Kumar... who knows.......... but this ignorance of him and most of the reviewers is simply undigestable.
Complete story, script and each and every sequence of the 'Dhamaal' is frame to frame copied from 'Rat Race', the incidents between all the people, the transport sequence, the car chasings, the private plane scene, the vehicles crashing scenes, the hotair baloon sequence, even the accidental arrival of all cast at the end at a charity stage show is ditto copied from 'Rate-Race'.
Apart from the carbon-copy issue, the film manages to tickle the funny bone of the audience and is highly entertaining. After Masti, this is Indra's finest attempt. All actors were very good in their respective parts. There was nothing special to depict in this film for Sunjay Dutt and he did an ok job because of no scope or margin in his character. Arshad Warsi was not that funny this time, but his sequence with Bengali babu gari wala was hilarious. Ashish chaudhry was likable, Ritesh Desh Mukh was hans-mukh and funny as always and did a neat job. The best performance came from the seasoned actor Javed Jafree who was terrific as a dumb goof person, I especially loved his expressions in the introductory Toilet scene when he handed over the tissue-roll to the person on cammod :)
Music was average and thank god there were not many songs to make one bore, screenplay was very tight and film's fast tempo is one of the films' biggest usps.In short do watch this movie with your entire family as it gives you good laughs for two + hours, provided that you have not yet watched 'Rat Race'.
