There was a very popular dish called "Sarso ki Saag and Makai ki Roti " people order mostly in dhabas at roadside while traveling through Delhi-Mathura Highway. Being a Delhi-ite for around 5 years, I was quite skeptical about the North Indian foods availability in Chennai. I used to stay at Nandanam and my office was there in Taynampet. Dhaba express near nandanam signal gave a relief from idly - vada -sambar. We used to intercept Dhaba Express frequently. Foods are quite tasty and with the same north Indian flavor. Anybody loves mutton dishes , they can try mutton Rogan josh plate at least once there. Chicken plates are so-so. For sweet- taste buds , Jalebis and Gulab jamun are really delicious. Saturday We used to go for the buffet, was quite cheap. Another advantage is they play Hindi songs (oldies - kishore kumar) in the garden area, you can enjoy that while eating. The inside A/C restaurant arrangement is quite stuffy. We used to prefer the garden areas adjacent to the Front gate , in middle u can enjoy the artificial spring.
However, I had some bitter experiences on home delivery service of Dhaba Exp. They used to take normally 1.45 to 2 hrs for any order. Hope they have improved it now. One advice, please check the food while receiving the delivery, I got stale rotten food twice and that too after long waiting.
