The son goes in the same route as his father. Rohit Dawan, the son of Comedy King David Dawan starts his career with Desi Boyz. Desi Boyz is quite an ordinary light entertainer, which one can spare two hours and odd minutes without strain.
When UK hit by recession in 2009 many become jobless. Jerry (Akshay Kumar) and Nick (John Abraham) too become unemployed during this time, the first, for showing some heart and the second for not agreeing to do meager jobs. Nick has a dreamy expensive girl friend Radhika (Deepika Padukone) to impress where Jerry has his sister's orphan son to take care of. When both of them hit the rock bottom of their life due to lack of financial, and with a two week's deadline they were approaching an end of the road of dreams. Enter the CEO of Desi Boyz (Sanjay Dutt) with a recession proof job offer where he is engaged in supplying desi escorts to desi and videsi girlz. Watch the fun after that.
The storyline is very weak and in fact there is not much of a serious story to credit with, but created scenes to fit some earlier issued bills. The love story between John & Radhika was developed well but from the moment of its breaking up it took a deep dip and never regain the breath. The love angle between Akshay and Chitrangdha only started developing in the second half and therefore didn't had much time to develop or impress. Classmate turned Economic professor who takes tuition to the ex classmate by stripping a piece for each right answer was a naughty proposition at times but the writer director failed to en cash the pluses out of it in full. There are few moments of fun which stand apart and if the movie worth a watch it is for these fun moments. The interview scene where Akshay and John Blackmail Satish Kaushik is the best moment of the film, hilarious. The telepathic conversation between Akshay & John was innovative and cool. The first hour tried too hard to create the fun where the second hour focused on drama. The fun never reaches a bring house down stage where the drama was too dramatic and not convincing. So, keep your expectation bar to the minimum.
When I said the son Rohit Dawan follows the father, I also have to say that there is a difference. The father is by now an expert of double meaning dialogues and acts where the son is yet to learn the trick and many of the attempts goes on the direct proportions. Some of the hand gestures are direct which I observe some of the naughty couples around practicing it with a giggle. Akshay filling the bio data was another scene where Rohit was little more direct in hints. Then, except in few occassions like this the movie is restricted of vulgarity. The subject was too suggestive and tempting to expose more but Rohit maintained a mature restriction there. Even a Rockstar was too hot and suggestive for the male stripper scenes but not Desi Boyz.
The chemistry between Akshay and John Abraham rocks. After Garam Masala, the duo has another blast here in Desi Boyz. I only wish the screen play and direction was anywhere nears the former but the spirit of the actors manages the film to sail through. Deepika Padukone is good. Chitrangda is impressive. Anupam Kher is wasted. Sanjay Dutt is too good in the cameo role. Wish Sanjay was there in more scenes.
Omi Vaidya is good. The child artist did a wonderful job where he brought much needed life back tot he film. Overall, performance wise the film is quite good.
Music of the film is good where it supports the situations and keeps the momentum intact with foot tapping numbers. Choreography however was less imaginative and little attractive with stereotype presentation and sets.
Cinematography is ok with good visual effects. It doesn't give a vow feeling but just ok to good kind. Editing is ok and production designs are good. I however have a feeling that few scenes are cut off from the film without considering the links, especially I completely miss a scene to support Akshay's statement in the court, 'I had made sex with her'. I don't know it was of some censor cuts but it was missing.
Overall, Desi Boyz is a light entertainer with some fun but it lacks the flesh to acquire a grand opinion. At best, it can be recommended for a single time watch for naughty desi girls, notorious desi couples and some naughty elders who think they are still young at heart.
