Tips for new mothers..

I know I have put this in wrong category. But it does not matter.  During pregnancy the child is inside you and post pregnancy the child is with you.

After 11 months of motherly role, I feel am in the right position for writing this review. These tips that I am going to  share are for new mothers and would be mothers. This is not a review on how to to take care of the baby but how to take care of yourself.

My biggest problem after delivery was food. In India we have some general rules about food for lactating women.

Under these rules the new mom is not allowed to have anything spicy, fried or things that may cause trouble to the baby. Wrong food consumed by mother produces more gas in the baby(?) I know some doctors out there will not agree. But it happens. If the food causes acidity to the mother then it causes much more trouble for the baby. So stick to your elders advice

So for inital 1 month you have to eat moong ki dal(w/o tadka), chawal, some sabzi and roti.(Frustrating.I know)

We have one more rule that the new mother should eat ladoos loaded with ghee, dry fruits and all that is very heavy to digest.

No doubt this speeds up the recovery but you tend to put on lots of weight.

Doctors will advice you not to eat anything that is raw. This is because your

immunity is weak and you may catch on with some disease.

General rules about eating for Lactating Mother

1.Initial one month please follow the doctors advice and whatever your mom/in-law will offer you.

They know many things that doctors don't. Women have been delivering babies since ages research has begun only few centuries back. So listen to your elderly women folks around

2.Do not jump to eat spicy, fried food.  It will cause more trouble to you than the baby. Remember your system has worked up to its limit. Your stomach will want something that is light, nutritous and easily digestible

3.Please do eat ladoos. You may consume it in less quantity so that you get the benefits as well and your stomach does not have problem digesting it.

4.Your resource of Calcium and iron is going to to be used up in next few months.Babies are parasites they will cling on to you and drain you of your resources. Babies require more of calcium and your body knows that. If you do not consume calcium your body will route it by working it up with your bones for the baby. Remember your body loves your baby more than you.

  1. Your putting on weight does not guaranteethat you have good stock of calcium. My advice is drink 3 glasses of milk in a day in addition to your calcium supplement. I am emphasizing on calcium because if you do not regain or maintain your resource now, you will suffer greatly during later.

6.Drink lots of water. It will offer relief in constipation(caused due to iron supplements) and if in case you have developed piles(after delivery).

7.After around 6 weeks you may start with fruits, salads etc etc. which will add fiber and nutrition in your diet.

During Pregnancy you are advised to eat after every 2 hours. After delivery you come back to 3 meals a day. Why? Don't you have a baby to feed? Continue with the same schedule. Do not bother about weight gain. This is not the time to think about it. If you remain healthy the baby will also be healthy.

Continue doing this till the time you are feeding the baby. And do feed your baby as long as you can maybe 6 months -1year. It may be medically advised and the benefits high and blah blah blah. But it is an ultimate bonding with your child.

I had to start working when my baby was 4 months. I didn't bother about my meals seriously then. I was feeding the baby, working and doing all super womenly act. In few months my system gave up. My weight reduced, joints started paining plus I

started catching cold every now and then. After few'thoughtful' sessions from my doctor in which the doctor gave me his piece of mind that I realised if I am not strong then how will my baby remain strong? Its no different pregnancy and post pregnancy.  If you want your child to be healthy you remain healthy.
