The Story:
Marvel’s two beloved characters, Deadpool and Wolverine, are together on the big screens for an epic sequel to Deadpool(2016) and Deadpool 2(2018). Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool(played by Ryan Reynolds) is living a quiet, retired life when suddenly the TVA(Time Variance Authority) reveals to him that his universe is deteriorating due to the death of its stabilizing being ‘Logan’. A reluctant Wade has to suit up and convince even more reluctant Logan a.k.a. Wolverine(played by Hugh Jackman) to save his dying universe.
The Review:
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 34th film stays true to its promise of high-voltage action and eccentric humor. The chemistry between Deadpool and Wolverine is one of the best I have seen in the Marvel Universe. The entire movie revolves around traveling between multiverses and battles in the void, where both Deadpool and Wolverine take upon multiple adversaries and friends who have betrayed.
The plot might look a little absurd compared to previous Deadpool movies, but who cares about logic when you have two of the wittiest characters running the show?
After learning that his universe is dying, Deadpool steals the TemPed from TVA and finds the right Wolverine across various timelines to help him. However, both of them are pruned to the void. Deadpool explains to Wolverine they can go back in time and reverse all the damage if they reach back to the TVA.
Along the way, they meet various characters like Cassandra(twin sister of Charles Xavier), Johnny Storm, Dogpool, and his owner Nicepool, (the variants of Deadpool) while managing to stop the universe unraveling by killing the Time Ripper. The only way is by short-circuiting matter and anti-matter chambers and sacrificing oneself. I loved the cameos and simple storyline that doesn’t reveal much at the beginning but keeps you hooked.
What Works For Deadpool & Wolverine:
Top-class acting by Ryan and Hugh, witty screenplay and dialogues, along with a nail-biting climax is what stands apart. After Avengers’s Endgame, Deadpool & Wolverine is the next best film in terms of action sequences, animation, soundtrack, and character development. Directed by Shawn Levy, all the characters look comfortable in their roles, with stunning visuals and a thrilling pace to accompany them.
All in all:
Deadpool & Wolverine give the MCU fandom something to celebrate after a long time. Multiple cameos along with the nostalgia that comes with watching Wolverine in action or Deadpool’s humor can truly be experienced in the theatres. As a Marvel fan, you won’t be missing this one. Even if you do not follow the MCU, watch it for a fun, thrilling, and lighthearted action-comedy with great animations.
